A friend told me that last time she saw Manuela (Isomers) presenting she said that if you've been using a retinol for most of the year it would be a good idea to stop using it during the summer months.
Comments? I've never heard that before and have been using retinol year round. I use SPF daily year round, as well.

Maybe because we generally spend more time out in the sun?? As for SPF, I think we feel that the little we use is enough but I read that we should all be using more and reapplying more often to get the true protection. I guess unless you are truly and completely protected, the retinol could be counterproductive.

I use it in the Fall and Winter and stop in the late Spring/early Summer.

I have no idea who this Manuella person is, but like everything else, it depends on your individual skin.

Retinol is a pretty weak ingredient to begin with, I doubt that year round use is harmful. An SPF in the morning is a must, regardless.

I use Retin-A.
I have stopped using it for a week at a time, mostly in winter.
It makes my skin so dry and flaky then.

I've never seen anything to back up this claim (if she did indeed say this). Plus, summer is when much of the damage is done to the skin because most people spend more time outside in the sun and many don't wear any or enough sun protection so I'd think you'd want to continue to use it to help counteract that potential damage.
But what I would like to know is what was her reasoning to stop in the summer?

I use it all year and also use a sunscreen, either in my makeup or alone, or both.

Well for someone in the cosmetics business, her skin doesn't look too good IMO. I was actually shocked to see her this time around. I don't normally watch that channel and did buy some Isomers in the early days, but when she was on last week, I was quite shocked to see how terrible her skin looked. Maybe because like that Dr. Perricone spokesperson on QVC they think they look good with no makeup.
