Using glycolic acid and retinol

Hi! I use Dr. Denese's glycolic acid pads religiously after cleansing my face at night and I have had wonderful results and would like to continue. I have just purchased PTR's retinol and would like to incorporate it. What are the rules? Can they be used one after the other? I googled but got confused. Anyone have any suggestions???

Re: Using glycolic acid and retinol

The consensus among dermatologists is that they are not friendly to one another.  Paula B. is the only person I've read from who thinks they can be used at the same time.  You would be better off to use the retinol product at night and the glycolic pads in the morning.

Yes, you can use both the glycolic acid and retinol just like Paula from Paula's choice says! This is how you get old skin looking young without surgery. I use the PTR retinol pads on face and chest wait about ten minutes then shower and do not leave on my face...it still penetrates skin but by not leaving it on it wont dry out your skin. I use retinol 3 times a week at night only per my derm and of course SPF everyday!

We all have different skin types, mine being dry so take that into consideration and then tweak to your own skin.

Good Luck!

Re: Using glycolic acid and retinol

@littlelillie, you may have already read this FutureDerm blog entry about retinol and retinoids, but if not, scroll down to No. 9 as it talks about using acids in the morning and retinoids at night:  https://www.futurederm.com/11-things-you-never-knew-about-retinol-and-retinoids-until-now/

There really aren't any 'rules', just what works for you.  I've read that you can use acids and retinoids together but the acid may render the retinoid less effective.

Personally, if I'm going to use a retinoid, I want it to be at it's most effective level, otherwise I'm just wasting my time and money.  But, each person has to make their own decision about their skin care regimen.

An estimated 700,000 people around the world, 400,000 of them children, have died so far due to the discontinuation of the USAID program.

@River Song Thatis a great suggestion. I am already used to a morning and night routine so maybe I can just switch it up a bit. 😀

Re: Using glycolic acid and retinol

I've been using the pads every night for years.  And by Dr. D's instructions, followed the hydroshield, and then the retinol  - either her cream (FirmRX Retinol Peel), or the serum (FirmX Retinol Serum).  Then a moisturizer.  This is my nightly routine.   I have very sensitive skin and have never had any negative reactions.
