I've passed through the "grey transition" phase and my hair is finally its natural silver-white color. It's been several months and my silver-white hair is looking dull. I have seen and read about purple shampoos (many different brands) used to brighten grey, white or silver hair.
Are these shampoos pretty much all the same? I have read some can leave a blue or purple tinge on the hair.
Are these shampoos meant to take the place of my regular shampoo? I appreciate your feedback.

@Quinny I am where you are and yes I use purple shampoo as recommended by my hairdresser. It does not replace my regular shampoo but used every 3 or 4 shampoos as a replacement. I do strongly suggest a salon grade as they contain less fillers and more quality ingredients than you'll find sold in drug stores. Google difference between salon and Drug store shampoos for more information about fillers.
It works for me and does brighten my hair and has not left tinges of purple in my hair.

I use the Wen "purple" cleansing conditioner as my first shampoo. I use as directed and then leave it on for a few minutes. I rinse well and then use my normal cleansing conditoner as my leave in. I have light blonde hair and suffer from brassiness and dullness if I don't use this routine. Moisture is a problem for the dullness. I started using many type of masks two to three times per month prior to shampooing. That has increased strength in my hair which helped with breakage.

@Quinny ..................I have used Shiny Silver Shampoo for my white hair for years on the recommendation of my stylist. I also use Shiny Silver purple conditioner. I use the purple shampoo daily.
No it does not leave any blue in my hair. It prevents that dull yellow white and silver hair gets.
You may need to get a hair cut first to get rid of most of your dullness as the purple shampoo will not take it out.
I get The shiny silver at Sally's and on Amazon.

Sadly the purple products don't work on my hair. My hair grabs the color, and it takes forever to get out. My stylist tried and tried to make it work. We are currently using a conditioner named Syntonics brighting conditioner. Makes my hair very shiny and cleans up my silver hair. Hope that helps!

Paul Mitchell products bought at a salon has purle shampoos for blondes and those with gray . The minerals in your water can make those hair colors look dull or yellow.

@Quinny , I have very light pale blonde hair, and I use Joico, it's purple. It doesn't leave any purple tint in hair at all. I just use it maybe once a week or less if I see my hair is looking a bit yellow, which only happens when I'm due for color.

@mspatmac Thank you! What brand of purple shampoo do you prefer?

I use Purple Reign by Noughty. Sold at Ulta.
I don't use it every shampoo, maybe once a week. Or I'll add it to my everyday (organic) shampoo
I use this brand for several reasons.
The ingredients aren't as harsh as some purple (and non-purple) shampoos out there.
It's vegan and cruelty free. Made in the USA. I think it's woman-owned, too. Not positive about that, though.
