Re: Unopened mascara - how long is it good - and safe to use?

It wasn't mentioned in the comments but there is usually a symbol of an open jar on the side of various make ups -- maybe on the boxes or the tube itself. So once it's open, it's good for what ever that number is above that open jar.

I put a piece of masking tape with the date I open items like mascara, so I know how old it or how long it has been in use.

[ Edited ]

I use mascara - and other makeup - almost every day. I'm good about tossing an opened one every 5-6 months, but if I find an unopened one I will use it if it looks and smells OK.

Here at QVC I buy a lot offered in duos or multipacks. As long as they're not REALLY old I will use them.  Smiley Happy

@JustJazzmom

I should start trying to get myself to make a sticker of some kind to put the date when I purchase it!

Re: Unopened mascara - how long is it good - and safe to use?

I asked the Lancôme counter at Bloomingdale’s about this. They told me they keep unopened mascaras for up to 2 years and then they are told to toss it and stop selling them.
