I’m not a fan of super dark eye makeup on anyone. The heavy thick dark eyeliner is the part I dislike most. It can look very dramatic & striking for a night out look, but for daytime, I think it’s too much. JMO.

I've always been a more natural makeup gal. I like lots of products, but I tend to use a light hand when applying. I switched from black to brown eyeliner in my 40s. I’m in my late 50s and still like eyeliner. It makes a big difference on how my eyes look.

I always used brown liner and brown mascara.  My eyes are hazel.  

The brand I use now doesn't offer brown mascara, so I am using black.

I stopped using liner on my lower lashes for every day wear.  Only when I smoke it up, do I apply brown on my lower lash line.

I think if you're seeing the vendors on Skype, they are trying to accentuate as though they are in front of a TV camera.  They probably don't need to go so heavy handed.

@monicakm   Definitely. Many years ago, when I worked with Bobbi Brown, we'd travel to major dept. stores to do makeovers. Many states, the women had certain looks....hair styles and preferred colors. Texas stood out because the ladies wanted the "pageant look". Definitely not a Bobbi look. We had talk them down off the ledge.

@Lucky Charm   Black mascara always, even if fair skin and very blonde hair. That doesn't matter. Just wipe off the wand first on a tissue to get a lighter coat and do only one if necessary. Brown mascara does little to define the eye and most companies have eliminated it.

@Shanus  Oh no, I'd still be using brown mascara if I could find it organic.  I never had a problem buying it before and can't imagine why they would stop making it.

My lashes are pretty thick, the mascara just adds length.

My neighbor is a true freckled redhead with blonde (white-ish) lashes.  She wears brown mascara, but used to wear wear black with thick black eye liner.  She was told to soften her look to use brown and it looks great on her.   

The black was too harsh.  Now it just looks like she has eye lashes.

She really has to smush the mascara wand all the way to her eyelid because if she doesn't get it that far in to her lid, you can see her light eyelashes and where the mascara starts.  It looks like there's a void there, kind of freaky looking.

@Lucky Charm   That's where tightlining comes in...fills in the spaces between the lashes and I also line inside the upper waterline. That way there's no skin showing between or under lashes...just looks like full, dark lashes.

My husband watches this daily show with this group of ladies who are all giving their "views".  I can't stand this show and don't watch but just see it as I'm passing by the t.v.   I told DH --- several of these woman look so much prettier, and younger now that they have been doing the show from their homes!  They appear to be wearing so much less makeup and are letting more of their natural beautiy show!  

I have noticed this on other news shows, too.  For some time, the kind of overdone look has been popular for t.v.--- heavy eyelashes and heavy eye shadows, etc.  I think if that's what you really like, then, fine -- go for it!  But I think this is not doing much for a lot of them or really showing them off to their real advantage!

I agree with a lot of what is said here.  Some of us get stuck in a particular time period with regard to our look and our makeup.  I know I have been guility of that as well.  I went through a period where I wanted to wear the same amount of makeup and the same products I was wearing in my 30's and 40's. Sadly, this did not work -- of course!

I have never really found my "groove" so to speak regarding makeup since then.  I know that less is definitely more at this stage in my life.  I had written a post here some time ago about wanting to go and see about getting a makeover or going somewhere to get some professional advice, but then this virus thing hit and there went that!  Hopefully, maybe some day, this will happen.  In the meantime, with the masks and all, no point in the makeup worries any way!

I've always worn black mascara..I use browns, greens and plum colored eye shadow...never worn black eye liner..I match my eyepencils to my shadow.I use complexion rescue (bare minerals) and I love the luminous look it gives..I also have a bare minerals highlighter, I use above my brows..cheekbones..never liked heavy blush...thats it! I'm in my sixties~
