I've gone thru many stages in my long 'eye shadow' life.  When very young, I wore nothing but shades of blue, one color at a time, always a powder, from my eyelash line up to my crease.  Then I decided I looked better in greens, so wore nothing but greens, one color at a time.

For years I wore no shadow at all followed by a period where I wore several colors at a time - one color at the eyelash line, one at the crease, another above the crease.  Eek!  Who has the time?! 

These days I use one swipe of a taupey eye shadow stick above the lash line.  My fave was Mally's Taupe.  Now I use whatever matte neutral I can find at the drugstore. No favorites yet.

I love BB Heather Mauve @Funloving. I wore it on my wedding day. I used to wear more vanilla/pale shades, which was more appropriate when I was younger, but now I like a medium eye and light lip, with some color on the cheek. I prefer taupe/bronze/grey-lilac shades. They look great with my eyes.

Boy, that all sounds familiar.  I wear a more medium eye now, too.  I use Heather Mauve for the inner corner and/or as a finishing touch dabbed in the middle of  the lid a-top a darker shadow for a little pop.   Sounds like we wear a very similar eye.    Even the mid-tone violet  "Flash" looks much more muted once I've blended it out.  I'll use a  bit darker bronzey brown or brown in the outer V and blended into the bottom lash line. Bobbi Brown's "Cognac" which I didn't list is a great bronzed brown for that purpose.  Chanel's "Vega" is very much a greyish taupey cool brown- a complex shade good for the entire base of the lid-  An oldie but goodie.

I don't think my preferences have changed that much over the years, still love neutrals and warmer bronzes/browns.

Some of my old favorites are the following: Urban Decay Blunt, Maybelline Chocolate Mousse (not highly pigmented but makes a nice subtle eye), Maybelline Natural Smokes, Urban Decay Smog, Wet n Wild Nutty, MAC Woodwinked.

One of my new favorites is Laura Geller Dolce/Raisin, this is really pretty. I try to love purples/mauves/greens, etc but really never end up using them.

Yep... I still wear about the same look as I did when I even started wearing shadows. Seriously, I didn't wear eyeshadow until my mid 30's I'm thinking.   UD's Smog is a good one!  Dolce/Raisin sounds interesting.   Like you I can't wear greens, but do love a muted shade in the violet, purple & mauve family.  For some reason they make my eyes pop the best out of any real color.  I can't even tell you what color my  eyes are.... sometimes blue, sometimes green...Chameleon... especially if I'm wearing something in a "moss" color next to my face.

Now the hunt for a good, reasonably-priced mascara is on.  Mally's doesn't work for me anymore.  Bummer.   I had an older unopened tube of Diorshow I'm now using..  I was afraid since I'd had it for several years it might be bad.  But it's fine!

I have dark brown eyes and way back when, cosmetic companies were telling those who have brown eyes to wear purple shadow. And that look has always been one of my favorites. I also like the nude/neutral shades now too and use a liner in some color to accent my eyes.

There are too many purple shades to just choose a favorite. I prefer the shades with less shimmer in them. In the past I think many shadows had more shimmer instead of matte or some slight shimmer.

Blue shades are definitely passe and more 70's/80's style. Look at some of the TV shows from those years and look at what the women are wearing-- blue shadows.
