Thoughts on Shellac Manicure?

Has anyone had this type of manicure? If so, how do you like it? Is it expensive to keep up with? My hairdresser is having a shellac manicure party, and it is free, but I am concerned about the upkeep. I'd appreciate any of your thoughts or experiences!
