I was watching HSN this Morning( rather than QVC's boring weekend programing....) and caught Adrian selling her beauty line . It bothers me when they show a model that they say has NO MAKEUP ON and the model has on brows, eye liner and mascara and lipstick... to me that is makeup. A clean face is just that. A clean face has no mascara, eyeliner, lipstick or eyebrows.......
If you say a model has NO MAKEUP ON and you are implying just foundation,... then say she has NO FOUNDATION ON if that is what you are implying. These tricks that vendors think they are playing on the consumer just make me not want to purchase from them.
BE HONEST AND UPFRONT

I agree. I've seen that many times and my immediate thought is always "Yes, she does have makeup on!"
I would also like to see the day when they respect their customers enough to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! We're going to use their products anyway; no need to fudge the facts.

I might disagree with you here, but I'm not sure ........
What was the vendor presenting? Was it foundation? If so, and the face had no foundation on, then she did have a "clean face" for the purpose of the presentation. Who cares if the model has on brows and eyeliner if the discussion is about foundation?
Now, if the vendor is showing eye makeup and the model already has on brows and liner, then THAT doesn't make sense!
Not to put too fine a point on it, but, what I don't understand is why you're complaining about HSN here ..... what do you want QVC to do about it?

I don't think OP expects Q, or for that matter, HSN to do anything about it from reading these boards. It's not exactly unprecedented for other shopping networks to be discussed here.

Me? I'd rather watch snow fall in Florida than watch Adrian present make-up whether she's telling the truth or lying to me. I just never have been able to trust her and now I know why apparently. Doesn't matter, of course, because I can't stand her to on just personal reaction. No logic involved at all.

OP, I get what you;re saying. Like another poster mentioned, if she's showing off an item that has nothing to do with lips, lashes or eyeliner, no issue. Here's the thing: Often, she's showing off a kit that may include foundation, concealer, powder, eyeshadow and lipstick, blush and maybe eyeliner. if you do a face but have no mascara on, it looks kinda bleh...unfinished.
It;s a world better, however, then QVC bringing full makeup models out and then pretending to put the makeup on.

So often you see this. Before and after.
Of course, when you see a completely naked face before, and then a face fully made up after, it only is done to enhance the product being sold in the after. Makes it look even better. I guess some people think their audience not overly bright.

i know this to be untrue, but i've always thought makeup was foundation. to me, eyebrows, mascara, and lips didn't fall into that category. foundation on the other hand did. i don't know why except i've very, very rarely worn foundation or concealer and therfore felt i didn't wear makeup. dumb, i know.

It has since occurred to me that this might be a regional term ...... and the terminology is not universal.
If a friend joined me for lunch with a shopping bag in hand and said she bought some new makeup, the ONLY thing I would assume is it's some kind of skin colored liquid or powder foundation.
IMO, the words "foundation" and "makeup" are interchangeable. (I grew up on the east coast)
If my friend said she bought some new mascara, I wouldn't think "makeup".
What I am seeing here is that some people think "makeup" means everything, and some of us think "makeup" is only foundation ..... no need to accuse any vendor of "fraud" !
