The emperor's new Contouring

Watch the BeautyIQ Doll10 tutorials , or any of the bloggers, and you'll wonder what they're thinking.  The sharp dirty line cutting the cheek in half, beginning at the ear (TMJ) and slanting downward, only distorts the face.  In no way does this streak mimic a portrait artist's shading of the face.  Top it off with a metallic, or Pearl as they claim, oil slick from nose to ear , surrounding the eye ( the C application and a "triangle of light" ) and you'll marvel at just how good a hoodwink can be.

Elise is undoubtedly beautiful but she makes you want to grab a washcloth .  We've never seen Ellen look anything other than gorgeous, that is, until they cake up the foundation, putting decades onto her beautiful face, then streak on the war paint and the grease glaze.

Then, of course let's not forget the stencil perfect painted tracks for brows. Nothing even approximating real here.

Its amazing ing how people see what they want to see and blind themselves to what really is.

Hope the current trend is short lived.

Re: The emperor's new Contouring

I've been watching some of the Beauty IQ tutorials and repeat airings late at night on my ipad and I've noticed that some of the presentations aren't showcasing the products the best but that it's better to see what's wrong with the makeup or where the products come up short than some of the shorter presentations on QVC live where things are glossed over.

I watched the Clarisonic lady using the Mia 2 to clean her face on air and while she showed how to use it well, her face without makeup looked really irritated after she was done using the Clarisonic as her skin was beet red in certain areas like her cheeks. I'm pretty sure that this presentation was done before the Thanksgiving holiday and it's been on heavy rotation over the holiday long weekend on Beauty IQ. It's the Mia 2 that was a recent TSV. I have a Mia 2 and find that I can't use it every day or my skin gets irritated too.

The other presentation that I've noticed isn't too good is the Dyson hair dryer. The hair stylist guy used the diffuser on model Colleen's curly hair and her hair was visibly not dry at the back and sides at the end of the presentation although it looked nice. The lady vendor with the blonde hair really adds nothing to the presentation as she's not a hair stylist, all she does is take the attachments on and off and twirl them around.

And finally, the women hosts have all been given a Dyson hair dryer for free so of course they all love it...who wouldn't love something that costs that much money if they can get it for free? All they have to do is say nice things about it on air and on social media.

Re: The emperor's new Contouring

I saw the Doll 10 palette that sells with the mascara, taupe brow & lip duo, but the makeup was being applied on a model I've never seen before. She had a nose ring. The video cut off. Was her name Ellen? Maybe they shortened the video if the makeup was applied too heavily? The kit looked like a great deal.

I don't know what her name is either but she was doing a whole makeup tutorial with Doll 10 makeup including the contouring on her face. The nose ring is really a distraction during a TV makeup presentation and I would say that about any facial piercing by any vendor or vendor rep. I think it's best to remove those facial jewelry before demonstrating makeup. I kept wondering how she would keep that nose ring clean while she's applying foundation, concealer and while she was contouring the sides of her nose with that nice makeup palette. I did think she did a nice job with her brow tutorial though.

Re: The emperor's new Contouring

@TY  I agree. All the hosts wear way too much makeup using the excuse that they have to "bump it up" for HD. Well, hello? HD shows the caked up foundation, Sharpie drawn brows, glitter stripes on cheeks & every flaw they think they're covering for HD.

I DID see the irritation on the Clarisonic reps face & also on some models using it. In all fairness, they may have done that demo several times in 24 hrs. I use Retin A at night 3 times a week & only use the Clarisonic 2 other nights a week. Our faces aren't wood. They don't need to be sanded down to be clean & accept skincare. That's hype. I also remove my makeup w/ a gentle cleanser first before using the Clarisonic. The demos show the models grinding the makeup into their skin. What's the point of that?

Lastly, whether or not the hosts received the Dyson dryer for free, none of their hair looked great that day. The rep had to keep futzing w/ the models' hair & it looked worse than before. Not good for selling a $400 dryer.

All products are buyer beware. You can exchange/return a vacuum cleaner or computer. After you've dried out your hair and/or irritated your skin....no returns on that!!
