I wish Maureen Kelly would stop saying things on the skin are absorbed into the bloodstream. Highly unlikely. If that were true we would all be poisoned on a daily basis. Skin is designed to keep things out not let things in.

I use a prescription cream that is just medicine from capsules ground up and dissolved in regular old EVOO and it is supposed to absorb into the skin (my pharmacist makes it). So do patch medications--they work by being absorbed by the skin.

OP, I can't get over half of what is said in skincare presentations. It's as if science and biology and chemistry never existed.

Yes---aren't patch meds absorbed from the skin? And don't they say not to dye your hair in pregnancy because the chems are absorbed through the scalp?

This is true but the substance must remain in contact with the skin for quite a while to be absorbed. Not all ingredients are capable of crossing the barrier.

I believe our skin does absorb things and they go into your bloodstream. There are all kinds of meds i.e. Vitamin D, estrogen and many other things that are in cream form and are absorbed into your body.

Topical products can be absorbed into our bloodstream IF applied over an open wound or IF the product was made using nanotechnology, such as medical patches. However, most skin care and cosmetic products are not manufactured with "nanofied" ingredients, and they can not get into our bloodstream.I wish Maureen Kelly would stop saying things on the skin are absorbed into the bloodstream. Estrogen creams are touted as being topical, how can that be true when they are inserted directly into the body?

As usual, great explanation, Lyn

As always, I appreciate your fact-based posts. Unfortunately, those pitching "natural" stuff don't need no stinkin' facts.
