Re: Tarte Cosmetics sells 93.5% of company to Japan's KOSE Company

Japan’s Kose Corp. recently announced it is acquiring a 93.5% stake in New York-based Tarte Cosmetics, a deal worth 135 million dollars, giving the Japanese company its first foothold in the U.S. market.

Kose is buying out Encore Consumer Capital’s entire stake in the American beauty company, as well as most of Tarte founder Maureen Kelly’s shares.

Kose said Tarte’s existing management will remain in place.

Encore Consumer Capital is a San Francisco-based private equity investment firm focused on the consumer products industry.

I've read her response on FB. Here's what I feel: you are owned/work for a company that does animal testing, therefore you are OK with it. Kind of like saying I work for an agency that kills animals, but since I don't personally do it, that makes everything OK.

Bottom line is that the profits from Tarte will still be going to a company that endorses animal testing.

I will speak with my dollars, and will be spending them elsewhere.

Very sorry to hear this. Maureen deserves the profits of her work, but I agree: being owned by an animal testing co is participating in animal testing. My dollars will go elsewhere. Will cancel any active auto deliveries.....and no more tarte for me.

So glad so many people are giving up tarte due to them selling out to a parent co. that tests on animals! I'm spreading the news too! I bought a tarte mascara recently on qvc that i don't even want to try now, and just received a pkg from tarte today ( my first order ever from them!) i just wrote them and asked them to send me a pre-paid return label as i am so incredibly disgusted by this sell-out! Maureen, if they profit from tarte sales, YOU ARE supporting animals'suffering! Congratulations. You are now a greedy sell out like all the others.

Re: Tarte Cosmetics sells 93.5% of company to Japan's KOSE Company

I am with the previous posters. Even if Tarte never tests on animals, Kose does, and by buying Tarte products we will be putting money in Kose's pockets.

We had other favs before Tarte, and those of us who won't support companies who test on animals will find new favs. There are so, so many products out there just waiting for our attention.

On another note, I wonder how long it will be before IT cosmetics follows suit. Seems to be an inevitable progression. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

Well I was a tartelett, loved most of the products I purchased, and most of all I loved that it was cruelty free - NO ANIMAL TESTING. Since Maureen decided to sell to a company who does/will test on animals in order to sell worldwide - I will no longer be a customer. You see, certain countries REQUIRE animal testing. This is what happens to people when they get greedy and forget what the message "was". Sorry Maureen, but you will lose customers - other people may not care, but A LOT OF US DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S.- I hope your millions of $$$ make you sleep better at night knowing you are contributing to the torture of animals for the sake of the almighty dollar!

We need to make our voices heard! If you aren't on Facebook, send them an email through Tarte's website.

Sigh. I'd finally found a cruelty-free blush that I loved and wasn't made in China. Oh well, won't be buying my beloved Tarte blushes anymore.

STOP being a consumer of anything. No matter what you buy, you are making someone successful. ALL small start up companies sell at some point. There will always be other start ups to take their place. Same is true no mater what you do, automobiles, appliances, furniture, cosmetics, food companies...They ONLY way to avoid contributing to someone elses success is to stop buying whatever it is that they are selling.
