Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation Shade Question

I recently purchased the brush/Amazonian Clay foundation combo in medium. I really like how it feels, how it works...all the good things about it, however the shade is just off, its too dark for me. Normally I am medium. I am debating on returning this item, and exchanging for the light shade, but am afraid it may be too light. The last resort I have is to purchase from the Tarte site in the light-medium shade (of course the brush is a seperate purchase on their site).

Has anyone had this experience, and can you please share how you resolved the problem.
