You need to make sure that you do not have an allergic reaction to it or that your skin is sensitive. I'd recommend using the powder once a day for a week. If you don't have any reaction, then you can probably try it for both AM and PM washing. I do use and love the Tatcha Cleansing oil but I had a bad reaction to the enzyme cleansers but I also started out using it twice a day. My skin turned red and stung like a burn. I determined I had a reaction to either the talc or papaya enzyme in the powders. So that is why I recommend starting slow to make sure your skin can tolerate it. I wish the powders had worked for me cause it definitely did clean out my pores but my skin just could not tolerate it. And I don't have sensitive skin either. Good luck!
I've read (here) that some people do have a reaction to talc, and I know that some citrus things (is papaya a citrus?) can affect people negatively, too. So sorry to hear you reacted that way. Have you tried the Gentle rice powder? (Although I think there's talc in that, too.) I just use it at night after the oil, I've never used it alone.

In the morning I just can't and don't think I need to, use the cleansing oil on my face. I use a mild facial cleanser in the shower and follow with Tatcha creams.

My thinking is they advise we avoid our eye area, due to the enzymes in the formulation. They must feel the exfoliating enzymes may be too potent for the sensitive eye area of (some) users.Harpa,; just lightly, enough to remove the oil residue (which isn't much by that point). It's so creamy, not gritty, so I feel brave enough to use it. No problem. But as I said, my skin seems to be able to withstand anything I assault it with! :-)
EDIT -- have you tried the samples yet? I'm wondering if I'm the only one who thinks the rice powder is creamy and non-gritty. Of course, mixing it with the Camellia "milk" might make the difference, too.

Night time oil cleanser. Follow with the power. Use whatever is your Moisturizer of choice after. Mine is Kate Sommerville Deep Tissue Repair, but another wonderful one is Kate's Quench. I haven't tried any more of Tatcha's products, but I'm sure I will in the future.
You're all cleaned and exfoliated. So jump in bed and wake up experiencing how wonderful your face will feel.
Truly I get a similar feeling with Kate's Exfolkate followed by Quench.
But I like trying these new things, including Eve Lom.

I tried all three of the enzyme powders and all three do have talc and Papaya in them. I was bummed because I really did notice it cleaning out my pores and they were smaller. But my face burned like I had a chemical burn and it took a week for it to calm down. Another user said she had to make an emergency visit to her derm and her description of her reaction sounded just like mine so I highly recommend testing and going lightly before using day and night or with a Clairsonic. My skin isn't sensitive-I can use a pretty strong retinol on it, but the Tatcha enzyme powders really caused a reaction.

UMTerpFan - for what it's worth, there's no talc in the Fleur de Lis Rice and Papaya Enzyme Powder that I use. Admittedly, it's a little gritty, but not horrible. It's very gentle.

I took time to read up on talc in cosmetics. The talc being used today for home/personal and cosmetic use does not contain asbestos and has not contained asbestos since the 1970s. I even wrote to Tatcha today and this is the response I received.
Update for Case #13434 - "Talc = First Ingredient in Rice Enzyme Powder"

Thanks JLF, I did order the Fleur de Lis and it's nice. A different texture than Tatcha, it doesn't suds up and isn't creamy like Tatcha but is a decent dupe. I'm still on the hunt for my HG cleanser though
