Styling Creme/Gel for Messy or Spiked Look

I have very hard to hold hair that flops down flat on the top right away.

I have a short haircut and was wondering if any of you use a crème or gel that you can style your hair in the messy/piecey look?

Also in a gentle spikey look?

I do have Callista Tools styling crème that Jill Bauer raves about all the time.
