Re: Straight hair ….

[ Edited ]

I also have straight hair.  It's fine but thick (some people seem to think all fine hair is thin...not true).

Since it's straight, fine but thick it tends to go very flat on top.  Over the years I have found this very frustrating!  I have worn my hair in a bob which looks okay flat on top but not so much with my face.

Now I have some layers that I can work with for more lift.  I use a texture spray, Velcro rollers and Kerastace hair spray that holds pretty well.

Good luck with finding what works for you.  I would also like to hear what works for others here who have straight hair.

ETA:  When my hair was more of a bob it was always around shoulder length.  Now that it's layered, it's still close to my shoulders.  I never want to have very short hair.  I've had it in the past and didn't like how I felt in very short hair.

@Mom2Dogs I have straight hair. Not a wave. Not a bit of curl.

It's straight.

I've grown it out for the first time ever. I've always worn a shaggy, very layered cut with bangs.

I grew it out just past my shoulders with no bangs.

If I wash it at night & keep it pulled up & draped across my pillow while I sleep I get nice full hair with body.

I told my stylist that I tried curling it with an iron & with hot curlers, but it goes straight in about 20 minutes. Even when using the correct products.

She told me my hair was too heavy to keep any curl, so she cut layers into it.

My hair still won't hold a curl, but I get a bit more body & movement.

@Dusty1 Sounds like my hair.  When I was in my 20s I had long straight hair.  It looked great then.

Now after wearing a bob in mostly one length I decided to have him cut in in long layers.  I can get a bit more body or lift rather than all one layer.

@Mom2Dogs  -  Unless your hair has a natural wave, I don't think there's any product out there that will create curls or waves for you (except a perm).  You'll need to create the curl or waves with curling irons, hot rollers, etc.

@bmorechick    Hmmm, probably similar to a perm, right?    I have a hair appointment next week, I will discuss with the stylist.

Usually I have a hair appointment every 4 weeks, It will be 8 weeks next week....hope I don't take the scissors to it before Tuesday!

@Mom2Dogs a body wave and a perm are the same thing, same process.  My hairdresser sometimes refers to them as body waves, even mine.  It's a perm.  She tells me that the rod size is determined by how long your hair is.  Your hair needs to be able to go around the rod at least twice.  The shorter the hair, the smaller the rod size.

However, some hair responds differently than others.  I have baby fine hair which cam be difficult to perm, but mine sucks them up and I get very curly hair from what would be considered a fairly large rod size.  On the flip side, I had a friend with very straight, thick hair and she got a perm and it looked like a poodle.  About a month later it was gone.  Just fell out of her hair.

Good luck.  I hope it worksk for you if you decide to go that route.  I love mine although I would like a bit looser curl.

Wouldn't a bigger rod give you a looser curl?
