Stinky Scalp. SOOOO Embarrassing!

I'm 54 years old and this is the first time I've ever experienced such a thing. It's not my hair and it's not due to not washing my hair. It's my scalp and it can happen the day I wash it when I've gotten hot and my scalp sweats. I have this stench that surrounds my head nearly 24/7. My husband says he hasn't noticed it and can't even when I point it out. He said my head didn't smell "fresh" but didn't "stink" either...but it does!

I'm thinking it could very possibly be hormonal. I HOPE that's it. My just had my hormones rechecked and was hardly on the chart for estrogen, progestrone and DHEA. Got a new perscription for bio-identical compound last Wed.

If it's not that, I don't know what I'm going to do. Washing more isn't the answer and in fact can make it worse. PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one with a stinky scalp! I think the smell has embedded it's self in my nose now Smiley Sad Any cures/ideas?
