Super glue it with a thin layer applied a few times. Then nail strengthener so it will grow out past the split and keep up with the nail strengthener.

You can reinforce the superglue with tea bag paper. Don't use a coffee filter, tissue paper or toilet paper.
If you either have the kind of tea bags that you fill with your own loose tea, that works best. Just make sure it's white (not natural or stained from tea).
cut a tiny bit, get it wet with super glue, then use a tweezer to lay in on the split.
Once it's really dry, you can buff it smooth (it will be a tad rough).
I use this method for a nail I have with a split and sometimes use it when I get a side tear so the nail will grow out a bit.
You can apply polish over this bandaid, but after you remove the polish (and before you repolish) you may want to add a new layer of super glue.
I can not take credit for this, I read about this a while ago on this board, and it has been very helpful to me.

My right hand ring fingernail has done this for years! The split is vertical near the right edge of the nail. Wonder what causes this to happen? I've had it grow out and I think it's going to be normal, and then it cracks again!!!

I have the same problem w/ my right index fingernail. It's split right down the middle. Needless to say, I can't keep the tip painted because of the split. I'm wondering if taking gelatin will stop it?
