Splits in Nails

Is there anything that I can do to "patch" a vertical split in the tip of my nail. It goes too far down in my nail to be able to cut it out, can't cut it short enough so i would like to patch it so it could grow out without continuing to split further, so I can eventually cut it out. Any ideas? TIA, Sherrie
