Solution for those who feel the need to "clarify"

Hi everyone, I know there are some people who still use shampoo occasionally because they feel that they need to "clarify their hair/scalp. Anyway, just wanted to share a tip which I have found to address that issue without resorting to shampoo. For the record, I have used Wen exclusively for several years and it is definitely sufficient to clean my hair/scalp. However, due to severe over processing, my hair just would not retain moisture, even after repeated remoist and oil treatments. I personally found that heavier oils ( coconut and even olive) were needed to really "quench" my hair. The only downside is that these oils can clog the hair follicle and I was concerned about making sure they were completely removed from my hair. As a side note, I also have very hard water and thought I might have mineral buildup. I did not want to use shampoo so I improvised and added some baking soda to my cleansing conditioner during my first wash, making sure to use it with the Fig to prevent dry out. Anyway, it worked amazingly well! Not only did it get all of the oil out, but there was absolutely no color loss and my hair was even more silky and shiny than it had been in a long time. Not sure if others have tried this but I think it's a great alternative to using shampoo.

We used baking soda for build up at the hair salon I worked at for years. I am going to revisit and try. Comb through with a small comb.

Dr. Oz has recommended this tip on several occasions.

I'm a little concerned that I may eventually have to clarify because I have hard water, but I've read threads here that say people have had wonderful luck with Wen in hard water so I have hope. I do luckily have a sulfate free clarifying shampoo that doesn't over strip if I need to. I do plan on trying ACV or Baking Soda first though.

If you have hard water and have had to use clarifying shampoos before, give WEN a few months to see how it acts compared to shampoo/conditioner. But, before I'd use a clarifying shampoo because of hard water I would get a shower filter.

Yes I definitely plan on giving it a few months. As for the shower filter, I've had one in the past and it works but I don't know if A. our landlord will let me or B. if the plumbing in my bathroom allows it. So far so good....there's been times that I've used products on my hair and it's been only a week and I've needed to clarify. I washed pretty much every day this week and haven't needed to. In my old routine that's like two weeks worth since I only shampoo every other day usually. I plan on going back to only three washes as well.

You can get a shower filter that's incorporated into the shower head. All you have to do is take off the old shower head & replace it with the filtered one, no plumbing needed. Put the original shower head in the cabinet & when you move just put it back on. Both of my sons have done this in their apts.
