Skin Primer - Never really used one but now thinking I might want to try

My skin is not the greatest as a lot of you ladies know from reading my prior posts and lamenting my skin issues.  So, I am always trying to find a way to make my skin look a bit better.

When I do use foundation, whether it's foundation or powder, I don't think my skin looks as smooth or whatever as maybe it could.

Would a Primer help??  What do you all think?  If you think it would help, what would you suggest?

I would need one that is fragrance free.  I have slightly dry skin and rosacea prone.

Thanks for your suggestions and help - as always!

@AngelPuppy1   IMHO, since your skin is so sensitive I wouldn't introduce any new skincare or makeup. BTW, I don't use primer so can't recommend one for you. I know some are hydrating, some are matte, others add sheen, etc. That's why I wouldn't add something new.

Maybe your makeup needs to be changed if you haven't looked into that for awhile.

Re: Skin Primer - Never really used one but now thinking I might want to try

I mostly use a primer and I add a bit of my foundation to it and kind of make it into a bb/cc cream. Maybe that is what you should try, is a bb/cc cream. I have very dry skin and slightly sensitive but  it is in pretty good shape for me being 70----I use Laura Gellers primer----it has no scent. I also like Smashbox primer too. I think people need  a good base, by using skincare first --- something that addresses their issues before any make up will do its job. Went thru all that myself.

I used a primer for years...then ran out one time, and never repurchased. I found that, for me, a primer doesn't make much difference.

I have the doll ten luminous primer right now. I don't have really any texture and no big pores but I still like to use it. It has silicone so it just smooths everything before my skin tint.

@cindyNC --omgosh--I have a few that I use-- Doll 10, Bare Minerals complextion rescue , even put a few drops of ELF bronzing drops, sometimes even tarte shape concealor, just a dab----mostly I use the foundation powders. I think I tossed a few more foundations out recently. I really like the bb/cc creams. I even mix together some tinted primers too. I don't have any issues with doing that, my skin is not that sensitive.

@Shanus

I appreciate your post.  I am always hesitant to introduce something new.  I am very cautious.  I have a lot of different foundations -- liquid, creams, and powders.  My main one that I am most happy with is the LG one.  It seems to make my skin look the best.  But I thought perhaps the addition of a bit of primer would make things looks smoother.  I don't know.  As you know, I have the rosacea and uber sensitive skin, so I'm always or nearly always upset about how my skin looks.  Well, I know at almost 73 -- we share a birth date, if I remember correctly? - but being that old is not so much a problem for me.  I don't really have wrinkles at least.  Thank you for always being kind in your post.

@wagirl

Some questions.  So, you mix the primer into your foundation?  Which LG Primer do you use?  And what foundation do you use?  I am just trying to figure out how to approach this primer thing.  I think I am using good skin care.  But who knows?  Thanks for your reply.

@vermint

Thanks. I always think I will but never do.  I have a desire to try one!
