@James Mom I don't like a lot of steps either. At 65, I wash with Cetaphil (the Normal-to-Oily formula removes makeup the best), then moisturize. Currently I'm using WEN Replenishing Treatment Mist, and either a few drops of WEN oil or a pea-sized amount of VaniCream. That's it!
When my WEN products run out, I'll be replacing them with some kind of drugstore mist and oil. I firmly believe that oil or cream should be applied to very damp skin seal in moisture.
Honestly, I don't bother with sunscreen unless I'm actually planning to be in the sun for more than 15 minutes or so, which is extremely rare for me--I'm an indoor girl.

@James Mom wrote:Hi - there are so many skin care regimens on the Q. I am a 58 year old with normal skin looking for a SIMPLE routine to keep my skin healthy looking. Any recommendations - if too many steps, I just won't do it and I really want to do something simple but effective. Help please!
@James Mom I do get it that all the cosmetic and skincare lines can be baffling. BUT, I will say at 58 you have the advantage of getting a jump on a good skincare routine that will serve you well in the decades to come.
There are only a few proven steps/products recommended by dermatologists and aestheticians:
In the mornings, gentle cleanser, Vit. C serum (brightens and fades any dark spots), moisturizer and spf 40 or higher. Sometimes you can find a moisturizing spf and combine that step.
At night, cleanse (preferably a double cleanse to remove the spf which, by nature is sticky and tends to sink into pores and a good retinol product. The most effective is prescription Retin A.
When you're comfortable with this routine, you can add acid pads or a toner w/ AHAs, etc. for extra exfoliation. The trick is to keep your skin clean, protected with spf every day rain or shine (I even wear it in the house because the damaging rays come through the windows and from your computer) and the dead skin cells turning over & sloughing off which slows down dramically as we age. That's what the Vit.C and Retin A does.
Let me know if you have any questions. Hope this helps clarify what seems like a confusing routine.

I believe a complete skincare routine includes using some form of retinoid in either an OTC or Rx product. A vitamin C serum will also benefit your skin by providing it with a proven antioxidant which treats multiple skin concerns. I also suggest using some kind of exfoliation product which will primarily depend on the kind of skin you have. Cleansers, moisturizers and sunscreen are all must-haves...those things are very much a personal choice and should not be products that irritate the skin...basics should be gentle and effective.
In summary, the following can be incorporated into most anyone's routine:
-use a retinoid
-exfoliate
-use vitamin C serum

The simplest routine IMO:
Cleanse
Treatment
Moisturize
What products you choose to use would be based on your skin’s issues or concerns. I’ve used Olay & Neutrogena products for years. I also use Paula’s Choice products. You might want to check out her site. You can answer a few questions online, and they will suggest products for you.

@AngelPuppy1 I do use foundation sometimes. I just use warm water and a microfiber rag. Then I use Dr. Denese's firming facial pads. Then I wipe off my face again and put on the Hydroshield.
I was talking to my friend today at lunch. I said that crape errase should come in a bigger bottle, like one for the body.
I have dry skin so after I take a shower by the time I put all of the lotion over it and use the thing that gets rid of rough heels, etc.
Phew! I'm exhausted! Ha! I have been doing this for a very long time. Like I said, I used to get something similar to the firming facial pads to exfoliate my skin before I knew about Dr. Denese.
Here's how I started it. A very long time ago I was watching Regis and Kathy Lee and Josie Bisette (remember Melrose Place) was a guest.
They all three sat together on the stage and Regis said to Josie, (paraphrasing), "You have the most beautiful skin I've ever seen".
She said that she uses a loofa rag (something like that) and plain warm water to clean her face really well. I don't remember what else she said but he wouldn't get it go. He mentioned it again during the interview.
I don't have pretty skin. I had very large pores before I started that skin routing. I give credit to Dr. D's firming facial pads. I think they shrink my pores.
I've never been told I have pretty skin but many people don't think I look 73. It's just because I don't have wrinkles and I just told you why.
I would guess too I probably don't have a lot of expression in my face? I mean, I don't know.
I've never worshiped the sun and I've never smoked.
@ECBG knows me. I think she would tell you what I'm saying is true. She's really pretty. She has amazing hair and with her looks and her southern drawl....well...she's wonderful.
I'm overweight and I didn't take good care of my weight. If I have a regret.....that's it.

I am sure you look amazing! And more importantly, you seem like a kind and amazing person! You always take the time to post very kind and informative posts and replies!!
I well remember Josie Bissett and thought she was so lovely --- she had that peaches and cream glow about her. Not fake looking or glopped on with tons of makeup, but just fresh looking!
You're right -- it is somewhat exhausting to take care of yourself! I told my husband once - for all the time I spend trying to keep my skin from falling apart, it should be gorgeous -- but alas, no!!! I have many things I am displeased about my body, face and hair, but if I could ask for one thing --- it would be to have healthy, beautiful skin from the top of my head to the top of my toes!
I see that you are a big fan of Dr. Denese products. I always wondered about them. But I was fearful to try them because of how sensitive my skin is. I am glad that these items give you such good results and satisfaction.
As for the microfiber rags, would you be able to post the item number that you buy from Q? I am really interested in this idea.
I used to know a woman years ago who had the most lovely complexion. She wore no makeup other than a dab of lipstick. I asked her what she used for her skin and she seemed surprised and said - nothing - I just use whatever soap is in the shower to wash my face! A lot to be said for genetics!
I see your friend, ECBG's post a lot and I'm sure she is quite lovely also!
I appreciate so much your very kind reply! Blessins!!

Hi, again! I agree wholeheartedly with @Annabellethecat66 @regarding the use and benefits ofmicrofiber cloths!
@SilleeMee had recommended microfiberwholesaledotcom, and a box of 50 cloths, $17.98, smaller and thinner than cleaning cloths, but, for me the right size and weight for a face cloth. Not expensive & hold up to washing. Now that @SilleeMee @has returned, I am happy to give her a shout out & my thanks!
Prior to using these, I had been buying MembersMark microfiber cloths from Sams Club 36 count, $14.98. Whichever you choose, you'll be impressed!

Oh thank you for the shout out
@cantdrive55 . I'm thrilled that you are enjoying your cloths. I'm on my second box, re-purposed the old ones to the garage. I love them!

Most likely mine is the fastest and simplest, Wash face in shower in AM, moisturize. Repeat the next day and on and on.

Oh you guys! Making me go look 😂
Several times over the last years I have been too sick to do anything and they would not even let me shower. In the process I discovered that my skin got so nice by being left alone. That not disturbing the bio film theory.
These cloths should further that.
