Shea Terra users I need recs please?

I have tried the oils in the past and didn't have any luck. I am thinking of trying them again and was looking into this line. I love that they are from Virginia. I live in NC a neighboring state. I am thinking of trying the Argan starter kit. It comes with an oil cleanser, Argan oil, the Argan rose hip oil blend and an oil for the eye area. My skin is on the dry side. I suffer from hyperpigmentation (from Sun damage not acne) and occasional breakouts. I am 38 and overall my skin is pretty good. Any recommendations from this line are appreciated. Thanks! Michelle

I love the Bourbon Vanilla Shea Butter Sugar Scrub & the Rose Water Ester-C Collagen Regeneration Facial Mist. I buy my argan oil from them, too, but haven't used any of the other products in the starter kit that you mention.

I did not care for the Marula Oil (couldn't stand the smell) or the Black Soap, although lots of others are fans.

Thanks Vamp! I'll check those out. Have you gotten good results from using Argan oil?

Re: Shea Terra users I need recs please?

I am curious what do you mean that you tried the oils in the past and they didn't work for you? Why didn't they work for you? If they didn't work for you, I don't know why you'd try them again? Or do you mean you didn't give them enough time in order to see results?

I would highly recommend their rose hip seed oil. I also love their marula, baobab, yangu and argan oils but some oils are thicker than others so they absorb less quickly. You can always buy a bottle of their argan oil and a bottle of their rosehip seed oil and make a cocktail yourself -it may be more cost-effective that way, at least in the future after you've tried the combination to make sure it works for you.

I personally love the rose hip seed oil on its own at times and I also cocktail it with either the baobab, marula or argan oil. Argan oil is one of my least used oils though, as I prefer the others.

Unlike Vamp, I do not detect any scent whatsoever from their marula oil. I would steer clear from their tamanu oil because that one is STRONG scented (all tamanu oil is though, not just theirs).

I also love their liquid and bar rosehip seed oil & African black soaps for face and body but I tend to use them once or twice a week. Some use them every day though.

One thing to remember about oils is not to expect miracles right away- it takes a little time to see results but it is worth the patience!

Re: Shea Terra users I need recs please?

I would pretty much second HappyDaze. I rotate several of their oils -- argan, baobab, yangu, marula, rosehip, watermelon seed, and desert date. I also have the tamanu and, surprisingly, I've come to love the smell. I use that one with one of the other oils every night. In the morning I chose two or three other oils to use.

I may try the African liquid soap with rosehip oil again in the future, but for right now, I found it to be a bit too drying for my skin. It's a good product, though, and you might like it. I'd suggest that if you try it, you might start with just once a week.

Oh, and I love the Bourbon Vanilla Body Creme. It is a very sophisticated vanilla scent, not overly sweet or cloying.

And I have all three of their shea butters -- the Gold (unrefined), the Nilotica (very creamy texture) and sample jar of their Organik shea (partially, non-chemically refined).

I go back and forth with the three butters, but if I had to choose my favorite, it would be the Gold one. I warm it in my hands to make it easier to apply and to get rid of the natural slight graininess. It provides an amazing barrier for your skin for hours and hours. I mix it and my foot cream and apply to my heels every night. I also use the Gold on my hands.

The creamier Nilotica is good for the face, but remember that a little bit goes a long way.The Organik shea is also excellent. It's been refined so that it has no odor, but to tell you truth, I don't mind the odor in the Gold unrefined. To me, it smells a bit like chocolate.

The only big misstep for me was their Cape Aloe gel. It made my face burn all night. STO refunded my money for that one and didn't even ask for it back. Pretty good CS considering that their stated policy covers only exchanges.

P.S. If you google for STO promos, you will likely find a 30 percent off code just about every month. I usually end up getting mine on retailmenot.com.

HTH.

I love the Argan and Rose oil. I put about three drops in my palm and a bit of SKINN Rejen serum and apply it to my face after a spritz of my wen lavender replenish mist. The oil mixes wonderfully with the SKINN Rejen and sinks right I to my skin with out any oily sheen or feel. The Argan Rose oil is also great on the lips, no more dry lips this winter.

IMO, this sounds like you have set a good starting point for yourself with this kit. Oils are not cheap and if your past experience with them wasn't what you hoped for, you probably shouldn't invest too much right off the bat until you decide how you're going to use them and if you're going to stay with them. If you do stay with them, then you can experiment and add a new one here and there.

HappyDaze- In the past I tried Argan oil and found it heavy and it didn't seem to absorb very well. It has been quite a while ago and my skin is more on the dry side now. PLus, I have been reading up on oils and I am positive I was using too much. I guess I thought since I was trying it on its own, I needed more. I did try a few other oils but it has been so long I don't remember which ones. I feel like I didn't give them enough time to know if they were right for my skin or not. I am just tired of putting all of this stuff on my face when I have no clue what half of the ingredients areSmiley Sad I am very interested in their rose hip oil for nighttime and am glad to hear you like it. Thanks so much for your suggestions!

I use oils mostly in the winter when the air is so dry. I like both argan and jojoba oil. I have also used sweet almond oil in the past, which I also like but haven't bought lately just because I have the other two on hand. I like them because my skin can be sensitive and the fewer the ingredients, the better, at least in my book. They do a good job moisturizing and a little bit goes a long way. Hope that helps.

Shea Terra has some good deals when you use a coupon code. I don't know if any coupons/sales are out there right now--I usually get an e-mail from them, but I haven't needed any product lately so haven't been paying attention.

Re: Shea Terra users I need recs please?

Suzy3 - All of your suggestions sound great to me, especially the body cream since I love vanilla scented products. I think I am going to start out small with the starter kit I mentioned in my original post. I don't want to overwhelm myself. I am glad to hear you like so many of their products! I am hoping I will like them too. I am making a list in case the products do work for my skin, I will know what others have had success with. They sent me a 30% coupon when I signed up for their emailsSmiley Happy

Denise - Glad you like the rose hip serum too. I can't wait to try that one!

JLF- I am going to start with this set. I think the oils should last me long enough to determine if they will work with my skin or not. It also gives me a chance to try one of their cleansers which I am very curious about.
