Re: Shadow Base? I need a Good One

I have tired several but always go back to Urban Decay - the original.

They have several formulas now, two of them have a lot of shimmer, which is fine if you want that. The anti-aging doesn't work for my oily eyelids, but I am sure those with very dry skin love it.

Both the original and the anti-aging formula dry matte, and give my eye make-up extra staying power.

What does a shadow base or primer do? I don't use one, but maybe I'm missing something. I thought it was to make your eyeshadow last longer and not crease?? I use Skinn eyeshadows and they are long lasting and don't crease. Am I missing something? or is this to even out skintone?

If you're not having any problem with shadow changing color, creasing, or disappearing, you probably don't need a primer. Lucky you!

OMG..You all are terrific to share this !!!

I have been re-assessing my make up routine & have realized I don't have a good handle on things.

So I've been asking this community some questions with great responses to up date my methods.

I use Paula Dorf. It's available on www.dermstore.com, free shipping & they include samples. I have used it for years and think it's the best.

I love the new one by Tarte. I have tried many and I found this evens out my lid and holds eyeshadow. I have spent so much trying to even out my eyelid color and nothing has worked like this.

Re: Shadow Base? I need a Good One

Op, do you need it to even out eyelid skin tone too or just to help eye shadows not crease or fade?

Also, do you tend to have more oily or dry eyelids? That makes a difference which to recommend.

The ones I like don't really have any pigment which I prefer because that can change the resulting color of the eyeshadow.

Cruelty free options (if it matters to okyou) that work great are Lorac and Too faced (both better for a tad more dry lids)

Non cruelty free that work great is urban decay (imo, works better for more oily lids).

I am also about to test out Jouer's brightening primer in neutral to see how it works.

I'm loving it, too, though there are quite a few bad reviews. The key for me is to quickly use a brush to buff it on. Shadow over it lasts all day. I got the pink but I think I'll get the yellow one, too.

Re: Shadow Base? I need a Good One

I love Bare Minerals' BB eye creams. They come in various colors, so I like to use Soft Linen or Barely Nude. It acts as my "all over" color, and then I just go in with crease and/or outer V colors. I love that it has an SPF 15 too, as my eyelids would otherwise be the only skin on my face unprotected. It wears great all day, no creasing or fading, and supposedly provides skin care benefits.
