So a few weeks ago I posted information (and maybe the YT video link) of a video showing spraying the inside of a mask with setting spray to reduce the transfer of makeup to the mask. I tried it this weekend and by golly it worked! I use Urban Decay All-Nighter. I put it on my face and on my mask. The makeup transfer was minimal! Just a faint shade of my lipstick and a faint amt of foundation from my nose. I was in Walmart for at least a little over an hour. There is no smell, in case anyone is worried about that. I put it on my face so I don't see the harm in putting it on this cloth and letting it dry before using it. The mask was clean when I put it on.

I would try it using a setting spray that is alcohol free, Urban Decay is not alcohol free.

I use Bare Minerals original foundation and switch between 2 kinds of masks, the white cotton ones and the ones that are white on the inside and blue on the outside. Rarely see any foundation transfer, sometimes but not always there will be just a very slight trace.
Spraying anything on them would worry me about breathing it. You say you let it dry but there is moisture in your breath isn't there? Wouldn't that negate having let it dry? In any case, if it works for you and it doesn't affect your breathing then good for you for finding a solution for makeup transfer.

It depends on how long I have the mask on for (I don't work so it's not 8 hours a day) and depends on how hot/sweaty my face gets. I've only done this once and was in WM for over an hour. Walked to the car and loaded groceries (in Texas, in the summer). I've had more transfer in the past doing the same thing. I'm not worried about the alcohol (as it evaporates) nor am I concerned about what I might inhale. I don't think anything made to spritz all over your face, wet, is going to be an issue dried. Let's not overthink this

I gave up on makeup. My face is covered and no one can see it. Only eye make up is needed.

@monicakm I'm wearing my usual skincare and a tinted sunscreen. To seal it all in, I spray my face with setting spray. I'm not sure if spraying the mask will eventually break down the fabrics...I have the Tommy Copper ones just because I needed the adjustment buttons on the elastic & have since found others, too. I handwash them each time I come home as advised. The spray may put additional "strain" on the fabric.
*** My main concern is keeping my moisturizer on (the mask is irritating to my face) and my spf when I remove it in the car. I'm using the MAC spray.

Thank you all for the tips here!
I will probably be going back into the office before the end of the year, and I was wondering what to do about makeup. When I was wearing foundation I used Urban Decay's Matte setting spray. I think I'll just use that, and not actually spray the mask. Hopefully that'll reduce the transfer enough to not degrade the mask quicker.
I hand wash them after every use anyway, but makeup would need scrubbing much harder, and may lead to it wearing down quicker.

Well ok, I guess we'll just all do what works best for us
We buy the Hane's cloth masks. I'll be spraying my face and mask with UD All NIghter and throwing them in the washer with other whites that get soaked and washed in powdered Tide w/ bleach.

I personally wouldn't spray anything to the inside of a mask I was wearing. I figure if you are out in a public setting, you are wearing the mask covering most of the face so I don't see the need for it. If a person feels they have to wear makeup or something on the face, then maybe just wear a bit of long lasting concealer or something.

I agree.
I use bareMinerals Summer Bisque as my foundation and rarely see any transfer onto my masks. Once in a while just a trace.
I don’t think it is a good idea to be spraying anything on one’s mask.
