I find it really hard with my hair to use all the CC I need with just one cleanse, and when I'm only going to do one (to save time or because I'm going to overnight Re-Moist) I have to consciously pile the CC into my hair beyond the point where it is all distributed through, otherwise my results are worse from not using enough.
I think this is why I was confused, because I really can't see how one could use all of those pumps for just one cleanse when, for me, it would be impossible to work it all through my hair. After a certain point, the CC would just fall off in globs, plus I wouldn't be able to comb it through (or the comb would pull much of it out) and clip it up for the duration of the shower. I use a lot of pumps for each cleanse, like as many as I possibly can, but after a certain point you just can't add in more pumps, right?
I guess I'm just a dummy sometimes.
LOL, well I don't think you're being a dummy
For me, the idea that you use the same amount of CC whether you're doing 1 or 2 cleanses just doesn't work, because I either can't use enough (doing a single cleanse) or I'm using too much (doing a double cleanse, but only using as much with each cleanse as I need to to be able to work it all through my hair). But everyone's hair is different and a lot of the recommendations he gives for "general purposes" just don't work for my hair...but I've experimented enough to figure out what I need to do

I never do a second cleanse, and I never use the CC as a leave in. Still love the results. I do use one pump of styling cream on the ends.

My routine is so varied, I'll use a single cleanse on occasion - mostly cleanse and repeat, but I can and do divide the total by 2 for each cleanse if I do the double cleanse method. my hair is fine enough and short enough that I get great results either way. Now if my hair were course, curly and dense I'd need a different strategy I'm sure.

So I stop rinsing before it gets to where my fingers don't just glide through. But in case I wasn't clear above, I don't get the best results this way. I am better off rinsing it all out and then adding back my leave in, which is 2-4 pumps of Fig from the 32oz mixed with a dropper full of oil. I thought not rinsing the 2nd cleanse fully would work based on the YouTube vid of Katia getting styled and because when I get my hair cut (Deva), my stylist works the conditioner through my hair and then barely rinses at all.
That makes sense now. A stylist can leave some conditioner in when she rinses; she sees what she's doing. I've never been successful doing that.

I've only been doing a single cleanse, too. I use about 14 pumps--my hair is between chin and shoulder length and after some trial and error, I think this amount is perfect for me. It blooms really nicely when I add the right amount of "splash," etc. I don't do the comb through in the shower. I use about one-half pump of CC + 1 pump of SC for styling on soaking wet hair before exiting shower. Turbie towel, blow dry. PERFECT hair! ![]()

I prefer not to use water to stretch my CCs. I'm paranoid that I will add too much water.
Today I used Wen Tea Tree for my first cleanse and I have Wen Fig in my hair right now. I still have enough for a leave-in.

My hair is course and curly. I don't think I've done a single Wen regimen more than twice, even when I found something that works well. I do, however, stick to the basics of 1st and 2nd cleanse and leave-in. I'm also pretty consistent with washing my hair in sections.
It's so much fun to experiment!

HB, I'm almost @ my 2 year mark with WEN, I'll never stop experimenting with it. It's the mad scientist in me!

I now have 4 CCs to play with! I don't know how I'm going to keep track of this. I write it down, but I never go back to look over the results.

When I started, however, my hair felt more moisturized and I could go another day without cleansing. I actually use less with a second cleanse because the product distributes so much better with the second cleanse that I generally use less than the half.
Because I started with oily scalp and hair I was afraid to do the leave in for the first few years. I wasn't very happy with the performance of the sc either. When I finally decided to try a small amount of leave in, the sc worked better and my hair was easier to style and the style stayed longer. I really amped up my leave in when I over-processed my hair and now I really scrunch it in and push it into my ends. The cc works differently when you add water and get it to bloom and when you smooth a small amount into wet hair.
I know there are many that do one cleanse or don't do the leave in - that's something that everyone has to experiment with and see what works best. But, IMO, the best place to start is to follow Chaz' directions first, then try one thing at a time to see if there's a change in your hair.
I am in total agreement. I too only did one cleanse. Once I started doing 2 I seemed to use less product and got a longer time period between each cleanse.
