Samples at Make-Up Counters -- Your experiences

Yesterday I decided I would go to the Clinique counter at one of our local dept. stores to try and pick out a new foundation. I thought it would be a good time as they are having a gift with purchase. Any way, the SA was so nice and one of the most helpful I have ever had. We decided that I would try Even Better, but I was torn between this one and another one, and I asked if I could return it if I didn't like it. She said --- why don't I just give you a little jar of it and you can try it that why? Then if you don't like it, no need to return it, and you can come back and we can try the other one on you! I thought that was so nice! Of course, maybe this is standard procedure for a lot of you. But not for me! Not that I spend a huge amount of time purchasing at make-up counters, but in all the times I have bought make-up and other products, none of the SA's have ever offered me samples like this! I don't understand why??? Shouldn't this be standard procedure or the more simple way to go? Even before when I have asked for samples of things, I have been told, oh, we don't have any. Just buy it -- you'll love it. If there's a problem, we'll deal with it later!!! And this has not been one store, but several. I was just curious as to what your experiences are when you are in the market and shopping for cosmetics? Thanks for your replies!!
