Safest Hair Color?

I have black hair that started picking up white roots very early (thanks, dad). I color my hair about every two weeks, though it needs coloring after about a week. Therefore, I am looking for the safest black hair dye out there.

I can't go the henna route because it would involve a time-consuming two-step process (henna and indigo). I would appreciate any suggestions you guys have. TIA
