To be honest, many perfumes and most men's colognes smell like bug spray to me.  One of my great fears is being trapped in an elevator with an overly perfumed person.

that's quite a dramatic statement

Here's a thought:  We have better body care products, better bathroom facilities, more air conditioning and more emphasis on hygene now than back say in the 1950's and 1960's.  I think there are more showers that are easy to jump in and out of frequently.. Most of us have more clothes and more washers and dryers.

We wash our clothes more, we probably don't smell like folks did then--so maybe those old scents were more needed, used and stayed on for a day or two than the newer ones and got sort of a funky "air" people needed then.  Maybe?????

My signature scent is Amazing Grace.  I have others, but wear AG most often.  I wear perfume when I go out in public - and sometimes at home.  I get compliments from strangers on smelling good.

I used to love Beautiful by Estee Lauder.  But then I started having sinus trouble and would get this strange cigarette smoke smell at random times.  I stopped wearing cologne and that smell stopped.  I do think that fewer people (men and women) are wearing fragrance these days because of all different forms of sensitivity.

@sandy53 - I am all over the place (church, luncheons, social events) and I too don't think people are wearing perfume or cologne like they use too, maybe allergies, cost.  I hardly ever smell it anymore like years ago.

My mother's favorite perfume was Beautiful.  I used to work at Saks back in the 80's so I use to buy her that and the gift set that had had other Beautiful items in it.

I buy fragrances all the time .. I wear it everyday and I don't care if others around me do not like it.  No one, not one person, has ever told me my fragrance bothers them.  I wear it for ME.

I no longer wear perfume because most of it is overly scented with some ingredient that gives me a major headache. Just standing or sitting next to someone with this heavy perfume on starts the headache for me.

Men sometimes spray it all over and it is so heavy that it makes me want to gag just even being near to them.

I would say wear your perfume if you like it but just dab it on your wrists or neck and not heavy. Just light so only you can smell it. Many people put it on so heavy you can smell them coming and going.

Thank you so much for being considerate of others who have problems with today's heavy perfumes that gives us a headache or worse, a migraine.

I still do when going out, and I hope I'm not offending anyone. I usually wear AG Body Spritz.

DH gave me a Chanel perfume for Christmas. I've yet to use it Woman Sad

I agree with your mom @vermint  Although I rarely smell fragrance on anyone, yesterday was the exception when I walked by a young woman and her male friend. Her fragrance was so strong, I could smell it two aisles away.
