Apply SPF 30 20-30 minutes before going out, then every hour! This works, forget the high stuff. You shouldn't be out in the sun that long anyway! Plus, ear and hat and light sleeves!

Elizabeth Arden has a new sunblock available only through doctors' offices, TPF 50. I believe it is available beginning in May. It will probably be in large markets first.

New York, NY, March 4, 2014 – Elizabeth Arden, Inc. today, in tandem with the release of a clinical study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, unveiled Triple Protection Factor Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50+, or TPF 50, a groundbreaking new anti-aging product. TPF 50 was developed based on a unique combination of protective ingredients including a DNA Enzyme Complex, a highly potent protein protection Antioxidant Complex and broad spectrum SPF 50+ sun protection. This combination works synergistically to create the most effective topical skin protection on the market. TPF 50 is the first of a comprehensive new skincare line, Elizabeth Arden Rx, designed for exclusive distribution in physician offices.

My dermatologist told me that he thought sunscreen was only effective to a point and while he strongly recommended that I wear it on exposed areas like my face, neck and hands, for protection against reflected sunlight, he said I needed a PHYSICAL block. He told me about Sun Precautions, a company started by a melanoma survivor, which makes sun protective clothing, hats, parasols, etc. Knowing how sensitive my skin is, he said that rather than using a high SPF, I could "layer" a lower SPF. I have done that, using DHC's White Sunscreen SPF 25, and wearing Solumbra Hats, using their Parasols, and have had no recurrence of skin cancer. Hope this helps!!!

Thank you. I have vitiligo and yesterday I had to go out. I am currently using a lightening agent to get rid of some pigmented spots as well as retin a. Anyway yesterday I put on JM SPF47, then an Aloe SPF 35 and then a sunmilk SPF45. No new spots thank goodness. I do get confused about all the different products though.

The JM sunscreen is beyond cruddy. Unless it has at least 12% zinc oxide, and it's waaaaaaaaaaaaay below that amount, it won't do enough to protect you from UVA rays. They're the worst of the bunch and matter the most.

I "eat" my sunscreen. Lots & lots of berries, greens, fruits/veggies. I start off 10 min. each side & build up to 30 min by end of summer. Not one single burn in the past...and I can guarantee no burn this year. No skin damage...I just had a dermatologist body check last week. If you are healthy inside, those antioxidants will protect you for a desirable amount of time.

Sunscreens have waaaay too many chemicals for me to feel comfortable. More & more research is saying sunscreen is a cause for cancer.

No, it's not. Ignore the "natural" agenda pushers. They're the ones that are also slamming petrolatum/mineral oil and other ingredients that are beyond amazing. The best way to market something is to slam the other guy, and "natural" doesn't remotely mean better.

And yes, you ARE damaging your skin. There's no such thing as a "healthy" tan. The mere fact that you're creating melanin is the ultimate proof that your skin is trying to fight back. Sun, no matter how little the dose, is cumulative, and unless you have genes from Heaven, you WILL see the damage down the road.

I wear SPF 30 or higher every day but, I have to say, I feel like I am doomed any way I look at it.

I am only 42 and tanned in my teens & 20’s and never worse SPF, I am moley anyways and have already had 16 moles

Removed L They all came back fine but I do worry about the years to come.

I still cont. to wear SPF but just feel like it’s a little to late anyways!

Unless you're a true senior citizen, no, it's not too late. The skin has the ability to repair itself a bit, but you have to stay out of the sun, and every second of sun adds up over the years.

I got, what I assumed, was a rather massive dose of sun when I was young, and two really bad sunburns. The second one was so bad that I nearly ended up in the hospital, and I actually had a tan line for a few years. I never wore the suit again, it just didn't go away for eons. I started wearing sunscreen in my 20s, but it was pretty awful with regards to UVA, and for the last 15 years or so, I've been nutty about applying a good sunscreen properly while also avoiding the sun (mostly). The result is that my derm says I have very, very little aging for someone that's now middle aged. Now if only I'd started wearing driving gloves 20 years ago.

Debates on this topic always arise here, especially as the research being done reflects more and more concern about chemical sunscreen ingredients. Everyone is going to have their own interpretation, as well as opinion, resulting in each making the choice to use what they feel is best or safest for their skin. I avoid chemical sunscreens as the research really concerns me. Skin cancer rates seem to be on the increase yet more people than ever before are using sunscreens. You would think rates would be dropping but that is not proving to be the case. I find that disconcerting~

I got an email from Lucky Vitamin today (a site where I purchased some Devita Facial SPF 30 recently) introducing a new Tinted SPF 15 sunscreen from Devita. It is a moisturizer, sunscreen and light coverage tint all in one. It comes in 2 shades, light and medium and I did read that the light is really super light so possibly maybe only for the really, really fair. It sounds lovely from the description and they are selling it for $18 and change versus the retail $26 and change. It sounds like it is light coverage which thrills me but I know some prefer more coverage. It might be good as a moisturizing tinted base with Spf then follow with preferred foundation of choice.

The Devita Facial Sunscreen I just received is at 19% zinc oxide and feels like a lovely moisturizer, which it actually is, just with the added benefit of high physical sunscreen protection. As mentioned in my earlier post, I picked it up at Lucky Vitamin for about $10.00 less than normal retail. I had not used Lucky Vitamin before but Living Social ran a deal that for $10, you could spend $24 on Lucky Vitamin's site. It was very easy to order and their shipping and communication both were outstanding.

Previously I had always ordered from Vitacost but have been equally pleased with Lucky Vitamin' service. I didn't do an overview of their entire site so can't say how they compare on overall selection of products (supplements in particular) but they do seem to be well stocked and offer respectable discounts.

Thanks for sharing, I used Devita on my last Vacation so I will check this out.
