Many folks here seem to have a string of lights on their balcony railings. They stay on (ours, too) from 6:30PM to 11PM. We have one balcony across the way that shines in our bedroom window.

I go to sleep around 10 and the lights have made me try a silk/satin eye mask over my eyes. It's either that or pull our 9' shades all the way down and up again in morning. I keep them 1/2 way up since I have plants in that window.

My sleep mask has helped if I want to nap and the sun's coming into the window.

Anyone else with a mask at night? I found one that has a hollow area on the eye area so it doesn't disturb eye creams or press on lashes.

Good morning, @Shanus  I use a sleep mask, too and it really helps me. We have an air purifier in our room for my husband's allergy and that thing has quite the glow to it. If I wake up in the middle of the night, sometimes I can't go back to sleep. Using a sleep mask really helps me with this. If I open my eyes and don't see any light, I can go back to sleep. 🛌 🥱💤

Sweet dreams tonight!

I have a sleep mask that has room for the eyes so I can blink or whatever. It's comfortable but I don't like wearing it.

For me, my first step would be to pull the shades. I also have large windows and put them up and down every day.

Hi Shanus. I don't use one every night, but when I do, I do sleep better, deeper.

I have a few...the softest, silkiest is a satin one from Amazon. I have others that came in freebie airline toiletry bags...some of those are nice, soft, lighterweight than my bigger satin one, and countour to my face well.

Yours sounds iinteresting with the "hollow eye" are, can you share where you got it?

My condo complex's lights, and my non-blackout, but translucent shades let some light in (want that for during the day...I still can have privacy but lets daylight in)...I don't have blackout curtains over the shades.

@Shanus  -  I am surprised about the press on lashes.  You're always talking about minimal makeup and the natural look.  Now you're wearing press-on lashes.

I love press-on lashes.  I don't sleep in them though.

I seem to be the opposite.  My bedroom TV stays on all night.  I'm not watching just need the noise, and I guess light.  If the TV shuts off I immediately wake up. Without this distraction my mind doesn't shut off.  When I visit friends that don't have a TV in the bedroom I have a hard time getting to sleep. An eye mask would not work for me.

I think she was saying that the sleep mask doesn't press on her lashes.

We used to have a neighbor behind us who left his flood lights on all night and the lights would shine through our balcony door shades.  His house was lit up like a Walmart parking lot every single night so I tried eye masks but they just annoyed me so I ended up getting blackout curtains that can be rolled up during the day. I like them better because in summer I roll them down and keep them down pretty much from May to October and it keeps the heat out of the bedroom. My bedroom is a dark cave and I like it. Thankfully this idiot neighbor moved and more sane people moved in but I still keep the shades down all summer.

I don't use one at home, but I always travel with one.  It is made by Earth Theraputics.  It is solf molded so not to touch your eyelids. I think something touching my lids would bother me more than lights! lol
