SEMI-PERMANENT HAIR COLOR question

I have let my silver gray hair grow in..my hair is about 6 inches long and some gray sections are almost solid gray. i want to try semi-perm. color to see if I might want to go back to my brunette color at some point. I am wondering if it will color it and if it will fully wash out. Does anyone know?
