Rosecea and retin a

Has anyone with rosacea used retin a? My dermatologist gave me a script for retin a but I am little hesitant to try it. Seems like it could make the redness worse? I can't tolerate antibiotics for it, and the finacea cream is too expensive even with my insurance. Currently I am using Purity and then a sulfate lotion in the evening. I have oily skin.
