I have very little gray hair. I was going to dye but chickened out. I bought root touch up from grocery store (Clairol) brown and gave it a try. I only used half saving second half for repeat if needed.
So far it mixed in with my hair
Very happy

Nice job.

This is exactly how I began to do my own hair after my hairdresser went on maternity leave, with no one at the salon to take over.

Yes, I realize how bad that sounds.

Can I ask what brand you use?
I was going to buy Madison Reed (40$) my hairdresser only charges 80. I thought should I do it myself to save 40 (I’m not including tip)?
I only need to go in every 9-10 wks

I bought some Toppix at my drug store.  It is temporary, but works fine,

Congratulations!  I don't know how to do a root touch up. I watched Angie from Hot and Flashy on YT. It seems very involved. My hair is shoulder length and layered on the top and sides. Does anyone just color their entire head every six weeks? I think I am just going to let it go until I can get back to the salon. I fear it could be a long time before salons open again. I live in NY state, about 90 minutes from Manhattan.

@Luv pets   No, don't color your entire head. The hair that's already been dyed is more porous and will take the color differently than the virgin hair at the roots. Maybe it's a better idea to find something that you apply to roots that will wash out each time you shampoo.

@Zaimee   I'm from Ellenville, but no one's ever heard of that small town.

@Shanus

Hi.!Just asked DH. Never heard of Ellenville. What city is it near. We went to SUNY New Paltz '73.

 As for this thread, I bought Clairol Root Touch dark blonde. But think I am really light brown with highlights so I am afraid to try. Using Cover Your Gray Fill in Powder now. But it is getting whiter each day!

@Zaimee   The closest bigger city to Ellenville is Monticello. Moved South when young, but family owned hotel in Catskills and still go back up.
