@timeless   Not sure what you mean by "reverse", but my hair was all silver and white and I stupidly decided to add lowlights in med. brown. The roots of grey were impossible to redo every 4 wks. I'm going through that process of back to silver now!!! My hairsresser is adding just a few baby darker pieces along my part. he called it grey blending so there's no line/mark between white part and brown lowlights.

Biggest mistake ever and I'll pay the price...time and money...to get back to my original silver hair.

Ladies, if you have mostly grey hair , ditch the dye and save a fortune!!!

@timeless   If you see a lot of grey there's no going back except to color it, but you'll become a slave to appts. or box dye. That's what I gave up about 7 or 8 yrs. ago.

Grey blending is still color being put in your hair.

Is that the "grey blending," you mention here - your current Avatar?

Nope.  It is not, that's what my natural hair looks like.

@Carmie

I take a multi-vitamin, but not very consistently.

Interesting on that B-12 info.  I'll look into it online.

@Shanus

I haven't colored it since 2019 when I had trouble getting my bangs to keep their tone.

I didn't realize at the time the reason for my color fading out all the time was that my temples were white!

(I had been coloring/highlighting my hair since I was 15!).

But like you, I have considered it and realized that the cost of mainenance would be too much for me.

Happy to be natural these days!

@timeless This hairdresser was the one I went to  many years  ago before I went silver.  I went to him last week to blend the lowlights that were faded and many different colors of brown from adding new ones each appt. with the previous hairdresser/stylist ...not sure what they like to be called.

He explained the thing about hair being like fish scales and the "scales" lift up when dye and peroxide are used too many times and so the color doesn't stay, but slides off. He also said the culprits are hot water, too much heat from the dryer, the sun even in winter should have a hat (?!?) and too frequent washing even with a sulfate free shampoo. Olaplex that I had been using too often he said has a lot protein that will dry the hair too much and to limit the use. Deep conditioning is better to keep the dye in place.

Grey/white/silver hair resists dye to begin with...like your bangs. So, now I'm in the process of him adding back what he called tiny/baby lowlights just along my part where it's all silver so it will blend with all lowlights previously put in. Eventually as it grows and the silver part has a few darker pieces are added there and the length is trimmed...I'll be all silver/grey again.

Getting lowlights is the biggest mistake I've made with my hair in a very long time. When I'm all silver again, that's it. No color again.
