Regretting Getting Highlights

I got highlights done in November. Before that, my hair was natural dark blonde. The highlights just made my hair feel so dry. My hair is better now, but it is still not back to the healthy, natural shine that it had before I had it highlighted. I have decided not to put any color or highlights in my hair again. I am going to embrace my natural color, so I can keep my hair as healthy and shiny as possible. My stylist toned down the highlights so they are close to my natural color. Now, I just have to wait a year until these highlights grow out. Smiley Sad

Re: Regretting Getting Highlights

I am sorry, Hilary. Smiley Sad

I loved my highlights until she went too light (and ran the color through to the ends) and mine too felt and looked like yours-drier and duller. I decided to take some inches off and now I am not going to do ANY highlights until the dry stuff grows out. So bummed because my hair was so long and healthy. We shall commiserate together!

Thanks HappyDaze. My hair is still healthy, but I think I was just so spoiled by the natural (no chemical) hair that I had before my highlights. There is just a shine and healthy glow in hair that is not processed that just can't be matched. I just wish I had it back, now. Thanks for your support. Live and learn, right?

Re: Regretting Getting Highlights

My hair is extremely fine. I love getting highlights! It makes my hair feel thick! I actually highlight my own hair so I know how blonde I want to go. I really love the volume the highlights give to my hair.

Maybe try a protein reconstructer (I like Joico K-pak) or Wen Remoist. It will help strengthen & soften you hair. I always do one of these after highlights. I also slather my head in oils before any color/chemical process.

I'm so sorry you are both going through that! The good thing is, when the highlights grow out and are gone, you will both have that healthy glow back.

Get your flu shot...because I didn't.

The great thing is my hair grows like crazy using Wen. My hair has already grown almost 2 inches since Thanksgiving. It should be grown out in no time. Smiley Happy

so has mine Hilary! I had 2 inches cut off a little bit ago and it is almost as long as it was before I cut it! Super crazy growth.

I am going to grow my hair out completely and see where I am at with my natural color. I am still going to go back to doing highlights the old way I was doing that still kept my hair healthy (only a shade or two lighter than my natural color, no bleach) but I am going to do less amount of highlights than I use to. I only highlighted the top layer but I am going to do only about half what I did before. And the reason why- I am REALLY loving how beautiful my natural color is coming in. It has its' own natural highlights that are really shining through, figuratively and literally!

Happy and Hilary sorry for your highlighting woes. I've never highlighted, being of American Indian, Jewish and Italian heritage I never felt lighter colors did me any favors.

I know what you mean. My hair had natural highlights, too. I had hues of red and lighter blonde. My daughter is nine. Her hair has sooo many natural highlights. Her hair actually has natural blonde streaks that look like highlights. Her hair is mid-back in length and she has zero split ends. Her hair always looks freshly cut on the ends. I don't think she will ever fully appreciate her hair with Wen because I don't think she remembers using shampoo when she was 7. Lol! I don't think she realizes what a difference Wen makes compared to shampoo.
