Re: Recommendations for 'softer look' eyeliner for mature eyes

@ciao_bella Lots of good advice here, but I will chime in because it's my favorite thing to do.

My eye makeup. Not chiming in!

You can still use any liner that you like, but you may have to do a bit more work.

If you like liquid eyeliner, apply it like you regularly would, but then smooth it with your angled liner brush. You don't have to soften it. You can, but you can also just lightly smooth out any "skips". The same thing with your pencils that don't apply as smoothly.

The best eyeliner that I use is my Laura Mercier Caviar Stick with an angled brush. For me, the Caviar Stictk is the most perfect consistency. It is smooth. Fully pigmented. I can apply it in one smooth line & once it sets it doesn't move or flake. They are beautiful. They are a bit expensive, but I collect any new colors when I get a good sale.

Cocoa is perfect.

There are inexpenive options, too. I just bought several (They had such pretty colors!) Nyx Epic Wear Liner sticks. I was looking for a nice, natural taupe eyeliner, but ended up with purples, pinks & greens! They are very nice & definitely worth trying.

I did find the perfect taupe that I was looking for & it was only $8.99.

Maybelline Tattoo Studio Smokey Gel Pencil in Smokey Grey. It applies easily, is fully pigmented & wears great all day.

I use a Loew Cornell Shader 1/4" angled brush that is $4.99 on Amazon. It's a great liner brush.

I hope you find something from everyone's advice that works for you!

Re: Recommendations for 'softer look' eyeliner for mature eyes

I use powder eyeliner in a deep plum(never black) too harsh for my small mature eyes. I only line three quarters of the way under my eyes. Makes them look more open. I was just looking for a new powder this morning. The one I have is from Philosophy and is very old. So far I'm considering one from Jane Iredale but still looking! Good luck!👀😊

Try NYX Professional Makeup Retractable Eyeliner Pencil in Dark Brown. Don't have to sharpen, thin, soft to "tight line" between eyelashes, doesn't pull on eyelid, only cost about $4 dollars and change. I bought from Amazon with other items for free shipping but can buy directly from NYX.com for other colors as well. Can easliy remove with q-tip or cotton ball Lancome eyemakeup remover (the best) from Sephora comes with travel size as well.

Re: Recommendations for 'softer look' eyeliner for mature eyes

I had a small stroke that left me challenged in the application of eyeliner (tremor) I emailed a makeup artist on YouTube for guidance on application and best natural looking eyeliner. She recommended LeStylo Waterproof eyeliner pencil by Lancôme. It is very soft and no need to tight line. It comes in a variety of shades, doesn't move throughout the day and does not need sharpening. Application is very easy because it isn't as dry as most eyeliners I tried. Removal is easy with Almay eye makeup remover pads....

Too bad it took me so many years to discover its the COLOR, not the formula, for me. I now use a brown from Mally.  It looks natural, not hard.  Check your stash and give it a try.

@depglass   I agree that black, still used by some women as we age, is very harsh. Navy is nice, too.

Just for the purpose of being sanitary, I prefer pencils that can be sharpened. The others, after use, are capped inside a dark environment where bacteria can collect.

No issues for me @Shanus . I wipe it down with an alcohol pad after each use.

If you are worried about bacteria, tight lining is another subject. My ophthalmologist told me she has many patients she has needed to see from tightlining because the liner is in the waterline and they got infections.

@Trinity11   Yes, putting liner in the waterline is not a great idea, but tightlining goes between the eyelashes, not in the waterline.

@ciao_bella

Hi I am 57 , since the pandemic working from home I have not been wearing a lot of eye makeup, but I do love the Chantecaille luster eyeliners . They are expensive ,but glide on I have olive brocade and earth and last all day . While I have been home I found a new blog for over 50 women called In The Groove . The founder Susan Feldman just posted last week a quick and easy makeup look for women over 50 . She does tightlining instead of eye lining , but she uses a skinny brush and takes mascara from her wand and tightlines with that . It is a great video with some good tips like putting a dab of her lipstick in the center of her eye . You can the video on their blog .

Actually many makeup companies disagree wirh your definition @Shanus . I just googled and L'Oreal parent company of Lancôme claim it it on the waterline.

What is Tightlining or Invisible Eyeliner?

Still wondering what tightlining is? This eyeliner technique involves lining your upper waterline to create the appearance of thicker, more defined lashes. Tightlining’s other moniker, invisible eyeliner, comes from the fact that this technique makes it appear as if you aren’t wearing any eyeliner at all—your eyes will appear extra amazing, but no one will know exactly why.
