We use our WEN on our dog Tizzy a wire-haired doxie, and we've never used anything else and his coat is lovely. If it's good enough for our hair to use on it's good enough to use on him. Plus he's sooo soft when he's done, and it lasts. Pet store shampoos are to drying, we've used it on our other pets in the past and they all had problem skin issues.

Nothing sold in the grocery store is on their "highly rated" list, nor is the much touted Science Diet. Every dog owner should research these rating and compare the prices selecting something they can afford with good nutritional value. I even called the one I selected to ask about the use of imported ingredients. Any dog owner with a breed that may include collie breeding such as Australian Shepherds and shelties, should avoid all insecticides, heart worm meds etc. that contain Ivermectin. It can cause extreme allergic reaction, including death. Dogs can be tested for sensitivity to it but the test is expensive. This includes Heartguard. On 5/6/2014 RedConvertibleGirl said:Has she seen a vet yet? I would talk to them about shampoos for her. If you have a local pet store (not a chain store) that carries good premium dog food and organic products I would go there and ask.
I can't remember, are you in the Seattle area? If so, check out Mud Bay.
Yes she saw a Vet when I first found her, but she wasn't having this scratching issue then. I don't live in Seattle... live in the middle of Kansas (small city), but we have a Petco and that is where I go for her food. They do have lots of organic brands, but there are so many different theories on what is best for dogs. When I got my beloved Chinook, I was told by the internationally acclaimed Alameda East Vet Hospital (they had the Vet tv show on the planet channel) to give him Eukanuba, but over time they changed their formulas, and it seemed he did better with Pro Plan. I wish our furbabies could tell us what they want.... right now I think she eats because she was being starved, and of course I want the best for her health and nutrition.

Here's what we have used in the past. I see that PetCo has it's own brand of salmon oil.

Thank you RCG, I will look for that or something similar. For now, I did use about half my bottle of SAM Replenishing Treatment Mist on Mia. I tried a little at first and she didn't mind, so I kept spritzing her with it and rubbing it into her coat. You would think she was having a spa day, she loved it, and she smells divine.
I think she is officially a WEN puppy-girl now. I will check back with the vet about food choices, and if this flea treatment could be causing the issues. I know sometimes it takes days or weeks for these things to manifest, so it could be either of those things or both even. I don't think the fish oil could be a bad thing regardless, and she has already shown me she loves salmon.
I do appreciate the information, thanks so much for everyone's consideration.

Hi Jules,I love the name Mia, so sweet! Yes I have a dog named "no" and the other one is "Get Down".
I should have been more clear about the Royal Treatment ingredients. All the shampoos are ph balanced for pets, all organic products with human grade botanicals (of course we would want nothing less for our dear pets) from the Tuscan countryside in Italy. They are all supposed to be moisturizing without harsh surfactents. These are five star products on HSN. I have read that the Honey Oatmeal is especially good for itching.

Jules, just wanted to add one of my Dogs is on Wellness Grainfree Simple Limited Ingredient Salmon and Potato for itching. Think he had a grain allergy. My other dog is on Wellness SLD Duck and Oatmeal. These diets can surely make a difference. Good luck!

Thank you birddrops.... you made me laugh, I think lots of us have dogs with those same names, at least at first.
The Wellness Salmon treats are what I am giving her, but haven't tried their food yet. Also appreciate the info about the Royal Treatment products, I will definitely check them out. Like you said, we only want the best for our furbabies. She has been quite relaxed since I spritzed her down with the SAM treatment, but that will only be a temporary fix I'm sure. Thanks again for your advice and info.

P.S. We give our golden 1 tablespoon of olive oil in her breakfast - to control itching and, hopefully, make her coat more shiny.
Whoever said "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" would retract that statement after looking into the eyes of a Golden Retriever!
Yes, yes, yes! Truer words were never spoken. And Golden Retriever hair is always my fashion accessory!

I also love purchasing my dog's food and treats from Chewy. I have an auto delivery and it is easy to change, even the day before, as long as they didn't begin to process it. And it is one day delivery! Free shipping on auto delivery, too!!
I feed my fur baby Taste of the Wild, too. Even his treats are grain free. And he is now officially a Wen boy
His Bichon fur has never been better!
