Question about blush

[ Edited ]

how do you think it looks best: when it is close to the color of your own natural flush, or do you try different colors even if they don't match your coloring? Also do you ever match your blush to your clothes

@smoochy

I don't know much about blush but I am interested in your question and hope you get a lot of responses!  For me, since I am so fair and yet on days have a bit of red to contend with - I do the best with sticking to colors which are close to my skin tone.  Very soft pinks and even pale peaches.

I personally like the natural flush look.  I don' match it to my clothes but do like to match it to my lipstick.

I do think that if your skin tone is neutral, cool tone, or warm golden, that should play into what blush looks best. I am neutral with a light med. skin color. A light rose tone blush or a pinky peach looks best on me. Also, I prefer a light hand with applying blush for a more natural flush. @smoochy  I just know what works for me & it does matter what color I am wearing for a top so its easy for me to choose from 2 color choices as well as lip color. @smoochy I'm in the camp of wearing what looks like my own natural flush, which is a dusty rose/mauve. If I wear a peachy color, it looks orange on me. If I wear something leaning more brown/bronze, it looks muddy. I don't have to change up my blush color to match my wardrobe because I only wear colors that suit my skin tone too, so it's all cohesive. Same goes for my lip color. All of my lipsticks are in a "my lips but better" shade. Everything looks enhanced but natural and works together. I only have one blush at a time, that works with everything, and when that one gets used up, I buy another one. 😊

I'm a light, with neutral undertones. For years, pretty much my only blush has been Laura Geller's Pink Buttercream. I like just enough that it can be seen, a natural look. I never match my clothes.

I am a light-medium/medium neutral. I can wear all kinds of colors of clothing.  I own every shade of RMS blush and use them all.  Right or wrong, I choose my blush and lip color according to the colors in my top.

@smoochy   IMO, blush should mimic your natural flush and I do have different shades but not to match clothing. I have a deeper rose tone for when I'm going out at night and want extra color with my full on makeup. I also mix my RMS bronzer with my lighter blush in spring/summer.

Of course, it's always personal choice, but not sure why you'd choose a blush that doesn't go with your coloring. I'm a fair cool/neutral and would not look great in warm tones of blush.

@smoochy I know I say this a lot but makeup is fun for me.

Sometimes I like to use it to look a little fresher.

Sometimes I use it to look a little healthier.

Sometimes I use it for fun!

When I say that, I don't mean in a clownish way. I don't do wild, outlandish looks.

I have a "wardrobe" of blushes. LOL

I have subtle colors that make my skin look nice & fresh. Nudestix Bare Back Blush Stick or Mac Warm Soul.

I have blush that makes me look like I got a bit too much sun. Mac Coppertone.

Laura Geller Pink Grapefruit Blush is one that I can grab for any look.

I have 2 Mac blushes that are bright & fun. One is a clear bright orange that I like to use, very sparingly. The other is a clear bright pink.

I have 2 red blushes that I love!

If I am doing a look because I want to wear a certain blush I work the rest of my makeup around that.

If I am doing a look because I want to wear a certain eye or lip look the blush is based on that.

I usually wear black clothes so I can do whatever makeup I want.

I'm enjoying the responses so far. For myself I usually apply a peachy pink blush color- but I have the IT Cosmetics Creme sun blossom blush. Love the textures, the special brush to stipple it on, the beautiful sheer finish.  However it doesn't really match my natural flush. It's much warmer and tawny. Funny thing, what really matches me is Benetint, the red liquid in the tiny bottle. It's def in the cool tone range in my opinion. I've always thought my skin tone was light-medium neutral. With those foundation shades I have to add other products to reduce the weird ghostly yellowish tone. Then on a whim I bought Number 7 foundation stick in Cool Beige. What a difference!! It's so me! No "doctoring up" needed.
