Problem with foundation lid breaking

Well, it's happened again - the golden lid to my supersize foundation lid is cracking! Has this happened to anyone else? While I do hold this lid in my hand as I "swirl, tap and then buff," I can't imagine that I'm using such a tight grip that it would cause a well-made lid to crumble. Have any of you experienced this problem? How have you solved the problem? Needless to say, I need this lid everyday to properly apply my foundation. BE - can you help????
