Let me preface this by saying that I'm a WEN girl, through and through, lol! However, my mom doesn't like WEN so she's been interested in trying Shear Splendor. Can anyone tell me what it smells like - I've heard it favors Lemon Custard.

Also, does anyone know why the 16oz duo is $39.34, but the 32 oz duo is $83? That math doesn't seem right, and it's certainly no deal to get the larger bottles, then.

Yes, it is a lemon smell. No idea about the pricing.

Yes it is lemon-y. I LOVE love love LOVE the conditioner, but I am not crazy about the shampoo. I don't know what it is, but the shampoo makes my hair dry and coarse-feeling. I think it is a clarifying shampoo. But the conditioner is wonderful, it is probably the best conditioner I've used. That is probably about the same price as you'll find it anywhere. I don't know that you can buy the conditioner separately right now, but I will as soon as they offer it. I'm so glad it's back now.

Re: Philosophy Shear Splendor

Let me preface my comments, as well. The best conditioner ever (for me, anyway) was philosophy's pure grace. But philosophy has an annoying habit of discontinuing all my favorite products. I had hoarded this product and now am on my last bottle.

Lo and behold, shear splendor has returned. I bought a bottle of the shampoo a few years ago when it was a marked down close-out item. As many have said, this shampoo is more of a clarifying product. It feels as if it is stripping every atom of whatever off your head. I can't even imagine how someone could use this without following up with a heavy duty conditioner.

I still have a 16-ounce bottle of shampoo, so I talked myself into buying the conditioner so I could have the pair and use up that shampoo. I also wanted to see if I could replace pure grace with shear splendor.

The philosophy website had a 20% off deal, so I caved. Right after I ordered, they had their annual Friends & Family deal (33% off). Never fails! {#emotions_dlg.angry}

So I've been using the conditioner, alternating between the shear splendor shampoo and my "regular" shampoo: Aveda's clove.

I still can't figure out if I like this stuff. I better learn to like it: I bought two bottles.

I don't get the silkiness that I got from pure grace, but there is shine. It seems like my hair stays "cleaner" longer. No "greasiness." I think I'd recommend it to someone who had issues with an oily scalp.

I'm in the high desert and my hair can be dry, so I'm still deciding if I can use this successfully. I think it's better than most of the others out there, but I do prefer the pure grace formula.

The scent is lovely -- nice and lemony. The shampoo will not leave hair a rat's nest if one applies it at the top of the head and massages it gently down the length of the hair. You can avoid tangling if you take some time with this.

I, too, loved the conditioner. And the same as you, the shampoo made my hair very dry and coarse. I did not use the shampoo long enough to see if my theory is correct, but it seems that the dry and coarseness of the shampoo would make my hair prone to split end.

If the conditioner comes by itself, I'd buy it.

I LOVE the smell. However, the shampoo didn't impress me in the least. Now if there's a conditioner I'd be willing to try it.

Save your money. Shear Splendor is hands down the worst shampoo on the planet.

Very damaging ~ you might as well pour bleach on your head and then rinse it out, or leave a home coloring product on for twice as long as the package recommends: that's how dry and nasty SS leaves your hair feeling.

Anything off the drug store shelf would be milder and less ruinous for your hair.

Re: Philosophy Shear Splendor

Pretty sure the results you get from the shampoo depends on your hair type. I have naturally curly hair that has to be washed daily (on the oily side) and it's color treated. The Shear Splendor Shampoo/Conditioner duo are hands down my favorite. I stocked up when they were 20% off on the Philosophy website (missed the F&F sale, too!) and my hair loves the results. Scent is to die for {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Re: Philosophy Shear Splendor

I love the conditioner and keep it in my swim bag so after swimming laps, I can wash the chlorine out of my hair. It leaves my hair silky. I agree with most that the Shampoo didn't work for my hair. My hair actually felt tangled and stripped after using it. So I keep the shampoo for cleaning my makeup brushes. Might even be too harsh for them..{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} But my all time favorite conditioner was Amazing Grace Conditioner and it was discontinued. Why..........
