And I couldn't agree more with Happy Housewife. I am diabetic, and my counselor has said for years to stay away from pedicures. Both the germs and the possibility of even a small injury are reason enough to care for your own nails. And don't forget it's important to keep your own implements clean and germ free before using.
Perkup, it's written right here by some who feel the need to set down the rules for the rest of us, particularly by mandymom who thought it deserved a lengthy paragraph.
I'll not post my response to her because I have grown rather fond of being able to post on these forums. So suffice it to say that at first I thought it had to be a parody.

Well, of course your pedicure gal said that. She wants you to come in frequently so she keeps working. There is nothing wrong with having unpolished toenails.
I quit going to any old place for pedicures as I developed white dots on some toenails. Eventually they grew out but I am very cautious now. I try to do my own pedi but I am not as flexible as I used to be and I can hardly reach my left foot. It's all I can do just to clean, cut and file the nails on that foot. I'm unable to apply polish so I go without.

But your toenails will not turn yellow if you use a base coat. And if you are diabetic and can't go to a salon (I have never heard this before) paint your nails at home. Takes 15 minutes and polish is super cheap.I'm just curious - where is it written that everyone must polish their toe nails? I don't recall seeing it in the Bible or in any fashion publication. I can find the hard as concrete ones, but they hurt! Remember the soft mooshey ones? That's what I'm looking for. Any suggestions? Thank you, and sorry for butting in.
OPI makes the softest ones and they are only $1 at ULTA!

That's just what I was going to say, PinkyPetunia. LOL, that pedicurist sounds like a QVC salesperson

My mother is diabetic and has her feet managed by a podiatrist specializing in diabetic foot care. She can then go to a salon and have her toes polished. She cannot see well enough to do it herself. One of my sisters is willing to do it for her as well.
One of my sisters has a disease that took her in one year from a being a 5k runner to using a walker. Eventually it will be a wheelchair. She told me that she finally got enough pain relief and flexibility to trim her own toenails for the first time in months. Her fiance had been doing it for her.
I prefer to see clean neat feet. Clean and neat hands and nails. That is my preference. I am not going to require that of you however. I won't judge. Okay, I'll try not to judge but I certainly won't verbalize my thoughts. Lol.

Or go to a podiatrist with a nail tech working there as I do. She cuts and files them then soaks the calluses and the doctor trims down the calluses. Medicare pays for this for diabetics.

However, I've learned not to judge.
These ladies may have a very good reason for not having presentable feet/nails. Or, it just might not be on their list of priorities. Bottom line, I don't care what these people do or don't do to their feet.
My thoughts exactly!
