Running a humidifer at night in my bedroom is the only thing that helped me.

A humidifier is a must. I run one 24/7. And since I prefer the ones that heat the water my electric bills are scary.
Because I have Sjogren's disease my lips are always dry. Vaseline with cocoa butter is the best thing I've found. I've given it to friends and they now use it.
The cocoa butter is the secret. I bought it in a little tin and realized it was better than all the expensive ones I'd discared

Sorry to hear, lips can be delicate.
If they are so sore that you are considering an OTC 'medicated' product, would trip to the doctor be useful?
Have you tried putting on a balm faithfully every hour or so during the day? Consistency helps.

Mentholatum. Best thing I ever learned from a high school English teacher. My upper lip would split down the middle. I use Mentholatum every night and it hasn't split in over 30 years. Me lips never get dry anymore.

Dry, cracked lips can be a sign of not enough zinc. Other things like hair loss and prolonged wound healing are others signs of low zinc. Digestive problems, vegetarians and being in the older population make it likely to have low zinc.

Any zinc supplements that would be good?

Many of the daily multivits contain enough zinc for most people. If you want to take more then it's recommended to not take more than 40mg per day total. That's the info I've read regarding zinc supps.

@goldensrbest - you'll really want to be conscientious about monitoring your intake between foods and supplements. There are consequences to overdoing zinc supplementation, including hair loss and interference with the absorption of other nutrients.

@lynnie61 wrote:@goldensrbest I mix granulated sugar and a bit of honey and do an exfoliation weekly. I used to use olive oil, but prefer the honey. Put it on, blend it in, and remove it with a warm washcloth, or do it right before jump my shower. I still love Carmex for healing.
I've read people say Carmex does more harming the skin than helping.
I still use as it helps my severe chapped lips.
