Hi all, I was reading an old thread and someone mentioned one of the products having parabens in it. Is this true? I was surprised by this seeing as Chaz seems very health conscious. Anyone know anything about this?

There is a web site called good guide dot com (and they also have an app that you can scan bar codes) and it gives a break down on health risk ingredients in products. The site was started and is a panel of scientists/chemists, etc. They rate products on 3 categories: health risk, environmental impact, and the companies societal policies. They rate products with no health hazard ingriedients 10, and the lower the score the more serious the risk. They show the ingriedients and point out the bad ones and state why. Below is an exerpt from their site on a WEN cleansing conditioner: Wen Cleansing Conditioner 3.7 HEALTH This product contains ingredients that raise a medium level of health concern. 4.0 ENVIRONMENT This company's environmental policies, practices and performance place it among the worst 50% of companies rated by GoodGuide. 3.7 SOCIETY This company's social policies, practices and performance place it among the worst 50% of companies rated by GoodGuide.

I'm not familiar enough with that site to comment on it. I don't know whether it is free from bias. I don't know whether it has any particular agenda.

But I did a quick check, and it rates ingredients as being a high, medium, or low health concern. Parabens are rated as being low.

The science doesn't back the negative press. Supposedly parabens mimic estrogen, but then we turn around and consume soy like there's no tomorrow. It contains enough estrogen that men are warned to consume no more than one serving per day--and that could be a typical salad dressing or some mayo. Then there's the usual high-carb diet that ups the insulin levels, and that fires up the entire endocrine system so you drown in estrogen. It's why those of us with PCOS are supposed to avoid major carb sources. The insanity about parabens is insane.

I've never heard of this company. When I checked it out, it has Wen listed as the "brand" and GR as the "Parent Company". All pictures are of GR products. I don't understand the low rating on health - when I looked down the list of ingredients for the 613, the few ingredients that got ratings were rated as "low risk", yet it got a very low score. And I'm not saying GR WEN is different than QVC WEN, I'm just saying that website starts out with incorrect information. Also, they state that if a company doesn't disclose information to them that company gets a low score.

They rate WEN as among the lowest scoring for environment and society and rate Johnson and Johnson in the top 10% and The Clorox Company in the top 5%. (I didn't know Burt's Bees was owned by Clorox, so I learned something).

Years ago it got out that parabens were found in cancerous breast tissue and women had a fit. There are a lot worse preservatives that they use in cosmetics that were not found in cancerous breast tissue. I think Philosophy still uses parabens in their face wash.

Hmm this is an interesting thread. Although this product may have been given a poor rating from some website, compare it to the cheap shampoos and conditioners being sold at all major retailers. The ingredients in the Wen products are far more environmentally friendly, and less toxic for human use. Take everything you read online with a grain of salt, there's no such thing as an unbiased opinion IMHO.
