I got one perm when I was young.  It was a nightmare. I had a ton of hair to begin with and with a perm my small face was just over-whelmed. Plus, it was frizzy.  My dear mother thought a perm would give my hair some control and be easier to style.  It had the opposite affect.

I didn't attempt another perm until I was in my very early 30's.  Spiral perms were still popular and I wanted that look!  I had long, long, thick hair.  I was in the salon chair the whole day.  Doing those spirals was a very long process.  I have to say, it did turn out well and lasted way beyond my being sick of it!  It was very expensive, too.

After I started to really lighten my hair, I never attempted another one as I did not want to damage my hair and really dry it out.

My hair has always been very fine and thin. When I was little my mom would give me perms at home. I remember the process and especially the smell! But I would love the curls it gave me! I actually still got perms at a salon when I was in my early 20's. Then I stopped and embraced my do-nothing hair. Woman Happy

I loved the permed hair of the 1980s.  It was the only time in my life I had wash and wear hair.

I have perfectly straight hair and have always had to set my hair. Even in college when long straight hair was popular, I still used large rollers or juice cans to give my hair some lift.

I have had nothing but bad perm experiences. Fried my hair! 😩 👎

Re: PERM Experiences??

I don't know anyone who gets their hair permed these days.
