Packing suitcase to visit the kids....Always take enough to stay 10 days if only going 4. Besides clothing (heavy sweaters for DC), I need my makeup & brushes, hairdryer w/ diffuser for curls, special s&c for color treated hair, can of mousse, tube of gel, hairspray, meds, lotion, electric toothbrush & night guard (I grind)...boots, scarf & gloves (snow expected on Sat.)......Does anyone have tips on packing less and not filling the back of my SUV for a 4 day visit?

Oh how I wish I could help you...I'm just as bad if not worse!  But have a great time, whatever you end up packing!

If I'm driving I don't generally worry about it. Since you're visiting family, you should be able to do laundry if an emergency happened, so don't bring 10 days worth of clothing for 4 days.

Well if it's only for 4 days try taking enough for 5 instead of 10 days. You can always wash what you take if you stay longer.

I just want to say stay safe & enjoy your trip. Take a blanket, water, snacks, etc. We always have all kinds of stuff when we travel. You never know what could happen especially this time of year with snow/ice.

If you have a universal diffuser, you could ask to borrow a hair dryer.

Pack pieces of clothing that can be mixed and matched, so you won't have to pack four different outfits

Use travel size toiletries.

Only bring essential makeup items.

lol you think you have a headache now, just wait until you have to drive with the lousy arrogant drivers in the dc area.  Please be careful.  You're taking your life in your hands there.  These people drive like idots here.  It's horrible.  I only drive unless I have to in this area.  It's that bad.  People are not road friendly that's for sure.

I travel frequently and always have my own travel kits packed...one for makeup, one for toiletries, etc. makes it easier when I have to pack quickly.

One great tip I have is to use samples that you get from the store or for free. I use travel as an opportunity to use up samples of items I've requested in the mail and for makeup items I regularly use, I request those throughout the year or go to Sephora before my trip to get a sample made that will travel well and last a few days.

I also pack items that can be multi-use such as a scarf that can be a shawl and can be used to switch up my outfits. You don't need many shoes. I think the important thing is to plan out your outfits. Like someone else said, if you're gone for 4 days, pack for 5 and you can always wash clothes while you are there.

Have a safe trip!!

When we travel to visit our daughter we take one suitcase. Our airlines only allows 40 lbs in a suitcase so we have to plan carefully. Luckily my husband takes very few clothes. The last time we flew we had 39.6 lbs of stuff.  Lol. Thankfully if we need to we can wash clothes at our daughter's house.

@jaxs mom  The clothing is not so much an issue.... w/ granddaughters so jeans, tees & sweaters. It's more the cosmetics, skincare and meds & hair stuff. Still want to look nice since they do introduce me to friends & their relatives. Oh Snap!
