I hear you! At the beginning of the pandemic I cleaned out so much make up, skin care and hair products. It was very freeing. The un-opened products are the hardest to let go of. It seems like such a waste. It's hard to not buy more. Make up and the such is fun to buy and try.
It does take a long time to get through every thing.
Stay strong and if you decide to buy something, enjoy it!!

Well, for me, if it smells good, looks good and feels good, I'm keeping it.
I use a ton of skincare every single day and night so it's not going to go bad anyway so that rule applies mostly for makeup.

My concern is the effectiveness. I threw out some moisturizers w/SPF that had a 1/2021 expiration date. I also had a Vitamin C serum that also expired in 2021. It had changed color, so I figured it would be best to throw them out.
It would be different it maybe my items were just a few months pas the date, but I had some that were over a year past the expiration date. I needed to throw them out.

I'm careful about skincare and creams and liquids. But I will never part with my Laura Geller Baked shadows and blushes! ![]()

A few more tips...
Someone already mentioned doing an inventory of your products. This has been helpful for me as well. It's also helpful to know where your products are in your house. Pre-fire, I had toiletries spread all over the place. Now I keep everything where I can see it. If you know how much you have, you're less inclined to stock more.
It's helpful, too, to know how long it takes for you to use a product. I have a Sharpie and I'll write the open date on products. I also make a note on a calendar when I start a new jar/tube/bottle of something.
If I can see what I have and know how many months' worth of product is in front of me, I'm less likely to purchse more.
And I avoid browsing. I stay out of certain aisles in stores and I avoid websites.
