However the OP wasn't asking whether a vitamix is a good deal. She was asking whether someone who owns a vitamix could still need a food processor. The answer is "yes, if you like a machine to chop, slice and dice". I paid $375 for my vitamix at costco and have used it almost daily for 3 years, but I don't use it as a food processor at all.On 1/25/2015 millieshops said:On 1/25/2015 lacey1 said:On 1/25/2015 KatCat1 said:Vitamix is what they call "on trend." an overpriced new gadget for the kitchen. I really don't think you need to spend $$$ on either item. No. 1 above described the difference perfectly.
Nothing new about Vitamix. They've been around for a long time. IMO:use it, yes it would be overpriced if it cost $1!. I use mine every day and I love it.
I also have a food processor. I use the FP for d If you don't ifferent jobs than the Vitamix. FWIW: I would check other sites if I was shopping for either one of these items.
Wow, do I ever agree with that philosophy! I pretty much apply it to all kinds of things. That thinking has allowed me to buy some very useful (to me) high-priced items and kept me from buying lots of inexpensive things that I'd almost never use.
As to the two items under discussion - I fall in love with the Vitamix every time I see one demonstrated - on air or in person somewhere. Then I think about how I live and walk away!
As for the food processor - I gave my original Cuisinart away years ago - and that was a huge mistake. Nothing cheaper I've tried since matches what that processor could do although I have not tried another pricey one.
If my budget and storage/counter space had room for just one, I'd go for the processor. It fits my life so much better. That's how I'd decide.
I actually did not know that Vitamix has been around for a long time. It must be the way it is advertised now. Everyone spends their money the way they want but $500 or $600 to liquefy is too much $$$ for me. You can make smoothies & soup in the Vitamix - what else? I really don't know but if that's it, I say no, thank you.

Vitamix was founded in Cleveland in 1921. The warranty for 5-10 years says it all. It is a machine for individual households as well as restaurants.
You don't have to pay $500-$600 for one. Mine was new for $399. You can also get one reconditioned on their website for less. They take ones that have been returned for whatever reason, put new seals in, test it and it gets resold as a remanufacture. Could have been nothing at all wrong with it. Still warranteed.
You get get a Ninja or Monteil Williams one guaranteed for 90 days, but you get what you pay for. And I hear their customer service is poor.
You really don't hear very many people knock a Vitamix. Most seem to Love it. Try it.

Vitamix hands down! I use mine all the time for chopping, grinding meat, make my own bread crumbs and season with Mrs. Dash. Make protein smoothies and also make soup. Made in the good old USA and the warranty is great. I truly am not sorry I bought mine and I know you will love it!
