she might not be going very often because she is not drinking a lot of water.

just remember that frequent squatting and urges to *go* but not much coming out is a sign of a UTI.

if i have a dog that needs fluids and isn't drinking enough i will cook a whole chicken then use some of the broth to flavor the dog's water. you can also soak her kibble if you are feeding dry food only as it's another way to get more fluids into her.

Dogs are creatures of habit so it may take some time to get her to know that it is okay to go more often.........when you are going to be home provide extra water and then take her for a walk.............often dogs will try to go while exploring on a long walk.......keeping working with her and my best wishes to you all!

I would also say that taking the dog on a walk will certainly give her the urge. Dogs smell where other's have gone and instinctively pee there to say "hey, I've been here too". It also makes them thirsty to be out walking and she'll drink more water when you get home. And the cycle continues!

So true! All the dogs we've had, male or female, marked their territory constantly. Our current dog, a RR/Lab mix, truly believes that she must at least squeeze a drop out every few feet.
