That's exactly how I feel and I said that to my mother this afternoon. I'm so sad for her family, but I'm also angry because I feel like she had more life left to live.

Our family feels so terrible. She bent until she broke. What a loss.

I was talking about this at the grocery store (everybody was either talking about Joan or about the Seahawks game tonight). I have to say, I think this is an okay way to go. "Knowing" Joan, it would be preferable to her becoming ill and weak, bedbound, whatever. I think that would infuriate her!! Melissa had a few days to be with her, and didn't have to watch her suffer for an extended time. I think that's a blessing, too. As Jim Morrison said "no one here gets out alive" so although I'm really bummed her life came to an end, it was quick and I'm guessing painless. Go in peace, Joan.

So sad to learn of her passing.

The way she died makes it even more heartbreaking. I used to marvel at her energy and the way she got around at her age. She had health and vitality. Something had to happen during that endoscopy.
I had an endoscopy recently and woke up during the procedure, choking. The doctor asked me later if I remembered anything from the procedure... "Why yes...I woke up choking!" Guess he was hoping I wouldn't.
RIP, Joan.

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is God's gift, that's why we call it the present".
I will miss Joan is this world, I really will.
While Joan was not the author of this quote, she did include a little scroll of it in a piece of jewelry she sold. That is one of the things I will miss most about Joan...her inspiration and wisdom like bringing up this quote.
Another piece of inspiration from her were her bumble bees. She said that bees were not supposed to be able to fly because of the their physical structure...yet, they can. She said that she designed her jewelry bees to remind us that we can also achieve the impossible (or something like that).

As a social worker, I know she contacted one of my clients diagnosed with HIV who was too sick to attend a long anticipated performance. She found out, got the number, & called him in the hospital the next morning. Who does that for a complete stranger? He was thrilled and so appreciative of her unexpected effort. My bee pins will be all the more precious to me. A sad day. Debby McN.
McN, thanks for coming out of lurkerville and sharing this wonderful story. And thank-you for your important work. Sincerely~Peach
