O/T in re to my panic attack thread

yesterday i ended up in the ER for my hart was racing and could not breathe. Of course they gave me no meds. But found out I am anemic and slightly high blood pressure

Found a doctor and told her of my etreme panic attacks and got on citalopram, mirtazapine and predanisone.

What are your experiences with these meds? the mirtazapine is to help me with the extreme insomnia

Re: O/T in re to my panic attack thread

I have taken citalopram for years due to SAD resulting in depression. No side effects and keeps me going. I had to take prednisone for years at the beginning of my autoimmune issues. Probably about three years or a little more. Hated it. Did each ""round"" and weaned off as soon as possible. Best of luck and God bless you.

Sadly I've suffered from panic attacks for what seems like a hundred years. I've never heard of those meds used for the debilitating episodes. Isn't predanisone a steroid?

Panic Attacks are no longer a 'crazy person's neuroses' so I wish you well in finding the meds that will rearrange your brain chemistry & keep you attack free.

Hi-I'm sorry you're going thru this, kcladyz. I am familiar with citalopram (generic of Celexa). for me, it worked very well in the beginning of my experience with anxiety. As time went on, not so much. Weight gain has been a significant issue for me with this med. hth.Smiley Happy

I don't have experience in this area, but I hate to hear that you're having to go through this, and I wish you the best. I hope you will be able to find some peace and answers.

Pred is a corticosteroid. It will reduce inflammation.

Use it for as short a time as possible with as little dose as you need. It can be tough to wean yourself off as your body will rebound and all issues will return. It cures nothing, only suppresses it.

Can cause issues with blood sugar and water retention.

Re: O/T in re to my panic attack thread

The only med I can speak of is the mirtazapine (brand name Remeron). My son has been on it since 2007 for insomnia. It really has helped him because it literally knocks him out all night. I will say, though, that it is an anti-depressant and getting off it is hard. For a couple of months now he has been very slowly cutting down and has gone from 30 mg a day to just under 15 mg. a day with no side effects. He wants to stop taking the medication since he believes he wants to see how well his body does on its own now. He is 20 yrs old and in college and many nights he stays up late studying and the mirtazapine must be taken at about the same time every night thus making him sleepy when he needs to stay up to study. I will attest to having been a God-send for him because his life was suffering tremendously from lack of sleep. I hope it works as well for you! Best of luck!

I think that, sadly, too many doctor's (I am a prior therapist)tend to overmedicate-Not many are well versed about anxiety. The Celexa is an anti-depressant (can be used for anxiety disorder) and he Remeron is also for depression (strong)- Why are you on the Prednisone?

I would have suggested a low dose of Klonopin (.5 to 1mg) to start-This would help to alleviate/calm the anxiety and would help you sleep.

I would suggest that you also learn breathing exercises.

Did she suggest a diet change?
